Player Discussion Brendan Gallagher: all heart, no hands

It was a dirty hit no question about that. His contract is brutal and he's a shadow of his former self but this guy gave everything he has/had for this team. I must say it's pretty tough seeing people turning on him and calling him an embarrassment, a clown etc.

Guess your only as good as your last shift.
Absolutely true.

The guy bled for this team. Nobody tried harder and he always took a beating and kept getting back up. Yes the deal he was given was terrible in todays cap world but I’m glad he got his money. I very much doubt he’ll ever finish it out before going on LTIR. He’s frustrating as hell for us, because he’s frustrated himself. He can’t keep up anymore, he’s not as effective as he used to be. He’s as mad at himself as we are at him. I feel for him. He knows he’s finished.

Nobody made more from less talent, less size, less everything except heart.

Am I the only one who thought this out of character for Gally ? Like, he's always had an edge, but I can't recall anytime he would blindside a guy or go for their head. He looked like Cooke there. Despicable, but still surprising from him.

Yes it was completely out of character. He has never been a dirty player, just extremely annoying. I don't recall one dirty hit before this one. He had one fine in his career, no suspensions.

But this one was extremely dirty and dangerous. He deserved every bit of those 5 games.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if I was biased or not, but I just cant recall a dirty hit, especially not anywhere near this extent. Seems like he's always been full on against this sort of BS. Don't know what's happening with him, but if he's doing this stuff he's probably not in a good mental state. A guy with that much pride has to know he's completely done, but thats no reason to take it out on a random player.

Deserve it.
It was a dirty hit.

One day soon, we will need to bite the bullet on this one.
If it's not this summer, it's going to be the next (most likely) but a buyout is coming unless he LTIR himself.

5 games was not enough for that dirty hit and he is a Habs player. If someone nailed Suzuki like that i would be pissed that he only got 5 games.
The NHL will never suspend players for significant periods of time unless the incident is prosecutable - they are very concerned suspended players will take them to court

It's only gonna get worse really as he comes more and more to the realization he can't hack it in the NHL anymore, so he's clearly gonna be taking out frustration on people more and more as well

Gallagher acts like he's reached that 'hallowed vet' status guys like PK and Carey reached, where they will be loved as habs for the next 50 years
And thinks the fans will never turn on him

He is in for one rude awakening in the coming years

I was going to say, this really isn't anything he's ever done or even looked like he'd do. It was so out of character for him. Could Pelech have said something so nasty that it put him off completely? That hit made no sense at that point of the game.

Almost seems like he was trying to throw the game....

That's it exactly. However much you're soothed by those millions pouring into your account, anyone with an ounce of pride has to be haunted by a degree of shame, and look back on what you used to be able to accomplish on the ice, knowing that you're nothing more than a shadow of that younger man, fit and healthy, absent those ten years of hard milage.

That kind of frustration, and his tendency to make questionable plays at the best of times, are contributing factors to one of the most blatantly predatory. unnecessary. and "selfish" hits that we've seen over the last few years.

But the man has to be remembered, and respected, for how hard he's fought year in and year out, the style of game that has broken him down to this degree.

First time he's been suspended in his career.
