Player Discussion Brendan Gallagher: all heart, no hands

Maybe he comes back better after a 5 game break, hopefully he loses a good chunk of money with the suspension.

It was tough to see I do agree with the people saying it was out of character for Gallagher. I wonder what his response will be if he pouts, I could see an emotional response like Byron had. It was just one of the dirtiest and most obvious elbows I'd seen in a long time, and I could have lived with it if it was against Marchand or Stutzle, but wtf was he hitting Pelech for

Gally took the money and the offer, knowing he could never live up to it................he owns that responsibility. He was not the idiot who gave him the money and the contract, that clown is now a coffee boy in LA, and was held accountable for such stupidity.

No one, blames Gally for taking the money, we do however hold him accountable for such a poor performance since getting paid.

Just look at his production since making his $$$ payday..............awful.
Gally is aming 8M this year, and Crosby 3M.............let that sink in.

And 9 million next year.....

Even the buy-out options aren't great with him.

It is a bad contract, but he was a good player, and at league minimum he would probably still be quite sought after. It was just a bad business decision made by the Habs.
Bergevin has cost Mol$on millions on bad contracts, and lost ticket sales.....concession sales etc

The whole thing was a cluster fu&%

If we can't dump him, he should be on the 4th line, playing five minutes a night. Humble him.
Dumping him might mean a bad contract coming back.........................buying him out might be our only hope...............unless someone on the Isles could put him on LTIR for the next season or two.....

He has a NMC too so probably wouldn't even accept to be moved.

He wouldn't. Other than tax reasons the only reason for him and Mental Midget to back end the contract is so that there is no way the Habs could get rid of him. The contract is worth far more front loaded so the money is invested longer. It is admirable that, like Matheson and Savard, he wants to play for the Canadiens. It's unfortunate he is no longer NHL level.

Molson hired him and kept him on for 10 years...that's on Molson

I hope Pelech handles him brutally.

Might this provoke Gallagher to walk away? even his most ardent fans have turned on him. He really should not be in the line up anyways, he's embarrassing himself as a player. Management never should have let it get to this anyways, what type of message are the sending to the rest of the team comprising the roster as they have, disgraceful.

100% Deserved...If anything he's lucky I thought he was going to get 10 (before they mentioned phone call instead of in person). I just don't know what he was thinking...

Bergevin made a classic bonehead mistake by overpaying for an "elite grinder" who had a history of broken hands. The money could have been fine , the term is really what kills me.

I was at the game in Ottawa and I cheered on our Habs but I couldn't help myself but boo Gally everytime he fumbled the puck.

Others have said, this might just prompt MSL to put this guy on the 4th line with 7 minutes of ice time...............nothing in the 3rd period when the game is close.....

They can make him a healthy scratch also,to help further entice him to call it quits.

Yeah, he was a heart and soul player but we paid for past performance. To an extent I’m even okay with that. But it’s a long AND expensive contract.

You just proved my point. Is it about winning in the NHL or running an old age country club? Chris Nilan bled our colours but he doesn't play anymore!
I think you're way underplaying his play and overplaying his "uselessness". He's not the player he once was. It's clear everyone agrees on that. But he's still a pain in the ass for other teams, especially around the net. And he's a vet I have no doubt our many young players appreciate having around. The problem is, due to our many injuries, he plays more than he probably should right now. And really, there are players who are playing worse in perspective relative to their age and expected potential. Calling him trash and a bum and all this other vitriolic rhetoric, is really a bad look for our fanbase, IMO. The contract is an albatross. Yes, but it's not like Gally started floating once he got it. He's just broken down now and aged quickly in NHL terms. But that is also because of how great of a net-crasher, forechecker and shitdisturber he was for any size, but especially for HIS size.

He would never leave that money on the table....
Robidas Island................everyone does it these days, look at the leafs, their goalie in Murrray, and Klingberg on D....................don't want them in the lineup, no biggie.

I think Parros is completely useless but i have to admit he just did the Habs a huge favor by giving him 5 games.

That is his role now. Nothing more and he should not see the ice after the 10 minute point in the 3rd...He is a boat anchor.!

again you are making my argument while being argumentative...he cannot play at the NHL level and certainly not worth $9M. So he should be either LTIR, healthy scratch or dressed and playing hugely protected minutes (ideally less than 5 per game) and not at all in the 3rd period. If you think he deserves more then you are full on rose-colored nostalgia glasses...He is not NHL material and trash talking after the whistle is not a sought after talent!

He looks like he is 38 years old on the ice. I went to check and he is 31. I was shocked. How is his fitness so bad.

But but he had 30 goals...twice 6 and 7 years back before massive hand injuries. Look up Tomas Holstrom from the wings, guy was a heart and soul kinda of guy for them that LIVED in the crease, he also had a 30 goal season and a 29. In fact he has better numbers because he stayed healthy, and NO ONE in their right mind would have given that player "elite scoring" status for his great tips and paid him 9 million in a single season.

Listen I liked gally for a few years but you could see the decline and injuries piling up, then the stupid yapping at ex players, current players, refs....Come on guys he may bleed for the habs, but much like lapierre, or tucker I am not crazy about that kind of player staying on the team and taking tons of bad penalties while not contributing nearly enough to account for a bad contract.

I love listening to colby armstrong but his head hunting(esp on koivu) made me hate him with every fiber of my being. That is the last thing in hockey to me. You don't go trying to put guys out with head shots. It already happens way too often without intent.
