Player Discussion Brendan Gallagher: all heart, no hands

Gallagher never acquired that vet 'aura' that players get after 10+ years in the league. to me he still plays, acts, and most importantly gets treated by the rest of the league exactly like when he was a rookie. 'chip on your shoulder' can be a good thing when you're a rookie, but when you're 31 years old you just look immature as ****.

then on the other hand I look at Monahan, he's got it. plays slower, plays smarter, doesn't get into silly scrums, by all accounts is respected by refs and peers.
Habs need more scrums and toughness
Nothing wrong with that but just not with small dorky useless players

Should we assume that none of these witchhunters were watching hockey when Kovalev did this to Tucker?

Who deserved it 100%

Thing is it's not so much because gally's career is done it's because he was an idiot and it shows no respect for a player nor the Jersey on his back
I don't think he was an idiot on that play. I'm certain it's because the game is way too fast for him nowadays. You can see it every time he's on the ice. He's exerting all his energy just to keep up and most of the time he can't.

It was a dirty hit no question about that. His contract is brutal and he's a shadow of his former self but this guy gave everything he has/had for this team. I must say it's pretty tough seeing people turning on him and calling him an embarrassment, a clown etc.

Guess your only as good as your last shift.

I understand that for sure, and I can empathize with his more hard-core fans, sure
Albatross contracts have a way of souring players with franchises and fanbases, it's the law of the land

But what would you categorize what he did last night if we can't use the words 'embarassing' and 'clown'?

No those words make sense describing the hit. Peraonally i just wouldn't use them describing the person. After all it's what 11? 12? years we've watched him play? First time getting a call from the league is pretty good considering the disruptive style he plays imo.

You are joking, right? His cardio is just horrible, after 20 seconds of every shift we are basically playing PK as he is totally exhausted. With all respect to him, he definitely needs to go to LTIR next year, if we want to move on. Or at least put him to Pezzetta's spot when he plays 7 minutes per game.

We have clearly not watched the same games. His cardio this year has been pretty impressive.

Are you sure, great cardio? The guy can't keep up, and can barely get back to the bench?
He is a hot mess.....

You see what you want to see, I think.

It was a reaction. Why is it so hard to believe that a player with no suspension in 12 years in the NHL feels bad about a split second decision he made that harmed another player?
I don't know how you view life, but just because I haven't walked down the street and elbowed someone in the face in my years on the planet should it mean that my punishment should be any less than a guy that has done it before? If you want to curb unnecessary violence in the game shouldn't you want to make a new offender think twice about becoming a repeat offender?

I think it'll depend on the drama factor of turning gally into a pressbox regular. Hughes might not want the bad PR, otherwise I completely agree.
I seriously doubt many habs fans truly love this guy anymore to be upset. Anyone can see the product on the ice.

No amount of heart and soul can ever make me worship a 40 point player playing in our top 6 for a decade who can't make tape to tape passes like some habs fans do with this guy lol.

Its funny how now some turn on him the guys been ass for years

The NHL is so much all over the place with its suspensions. Yes, Gally deserved 5 games minimum for his action. But guys like Marchand and Chara in the past could kill and get nothing or minimal punishment. That's what I hate the most about this league (and refeering of course).

Yep. Good start and he’s dropped way off.

“It’s not the years, it’s the mileage.”
Yea, Gallagher definitely took matters in his own hands though. After the break + suspension, we might see good Gallagher again for a few games hehe
