I would give him next season to redeem himself but if he continues playing at that level you have to buy him out.
The buyout peaks at 4.5ish mil, which is painful but still not as bad as paying Gallagher 6.5m. You can probably get similar production/value from a 2m player.I would give him next season to redeem himself but if he continues playing at that level you have to buy him out.
He's done, he was done since the first Covid playoffs when he crapped the bed with Tatar and Danault, then they had to be separated.
He continued to be shit offensively and defensively during the last playoffs, with his buddy Tatar. At least, Danault was useful defensively.
An execrable contract.
So the Habs gain nothing by buying him out because they would have his 4.5M caphit + 2M replacement. The buyout peaks at 4.5ish mil, which is painful but still not as bad as paying Gallagher 6.5m. You can probably get similar production/value from a 2m player.
The Habs gain a healthier, fitter, faster player. The 4.5ish buyout cap hit is only for one year, all other years it is around 3.So the Habs gain nothing by buying him out because they would have his 4.5M caphit + 2M replacement.
It's too early to buy him out even if he entirely deserves it, they can only hope one GM is willing to take him on and giving a bad contract back.
Player x @3.5 mil + 3 mil buyout = 6.5 milThe Habs gain a healthier, fitter, faster player. The 4.5ish buyout cap hit is only for one year, all other years it is around 3.
Unfortunately, there is no 'rebound' from his failing physiology. Gallagher has always been a one and done player. Now, he manifests exhaustion after only 20 seconds into his shift. He's effectiveness will only recede (if that can be believed) in the coming years. His bloated contract will be the 'gift' from the Idiot Savant that continues to 'take' over the next half decade. What incompetence. We aren’t competing anytime soon. You don’t need to buy him out right now. You pull an Alzner on him…wait a few seasons burry him in the minors and when we really need the money you buy him out.
Obviously this is last case scenario hopefully he can “rebound”.
Always liked Gally, hard nosed player, however I think his hands are done! Too much damage to his body the last few years. I do not question his effort though, but he does not look comfortable on his skates anymore.
Gallagher went from one of my favorite players, with me claiming he was a top 15 RW in the late 10s, to me hating him more than any player Ive ever seen in this jersey. (Yes, any.)
Hes absolutely dreadful, entitled and his attitude is downright ridiculous. Ever since the Subban fiasco hes been seen for what he really is, a locker room cancer.
I have a lot of accumulated anger on Gallagher, I needed to bump this.
Respectfully, your anger is probably misplaced. Especially if he was once one of your favourite players.
The noise (goals) is that Gallagher is dreadful. The signal (underlying stats and other performance measures) is that Gallagher is very slightly worse than who he always was and has had dreadful puck luck and poor linemate chemistry.

Yeah, maybe thats what the numbers say. Watching him though, hes dreadful. Rarely seen a player as bad as him as a full time roster player.
Good? Were talking about good?I watch him too, and I somewhat diagree. He was bad under Ducharme, but he looks good under MSL, he just can't buy a goal and he needs more complementary linemates.
You try and explain to your newly acquired GF that Gallaghers careless play keeps you up at night. Its frustrating.Danault is gone so you need a new whipping boy.
Or.
Someone could say you accumulated anger after a few months off
Good? Were talking about good?
He turns the puck over at every occasion he gets, he literally produces nothing save for random lucky assists where he did nothing, he cant backcheck because hes always winded, probably because he hasnt trained a day in the past 24 months and hes a joke of a leader, feuding with 20 YO kids and referee's alike.
Funny enough, Gally used to make every line he was on better. Now its the opposite and its quite clear.
(MOD)I don't mean to be rude, but you seem to have a tendency to develop an opinion of a player and then lean high speed into confirmation bias.
Ignoring the fact that turnovers aren't always a symptomatic of poor play, under MSL only Caufield has been more responsible with the puck than Gallagher. He's clearly not 100%, but he's still making responsible reads and creating in the offensive zone. The entire team is a tire fire in the D-zone, he's not obviously worse than other guys. He's also still making every line with him on better, its just that most of the team has been so bad that it hasn't amounted to much.
The rest just makes it sound like you have an (unfounded) vendetta against him, which is pretty strange tbh.
