Yea he's paid too much. What does that have anything to do with anything. The contract is signed. And he's not tradeable. That's out of his power, that's out of our power. So we're at a stalemate. Pointless to rag on the guy for it. He'll be a third line guy with works hard from now on. People will just have to realise that.
People rag on most players, especially if they underperform and have huge contracts. I'm pretty sure they'll find a way to get rid of him if he doesn't improve. You simply cannot have a guy on your 3rd line making that much.
Anyway, the whole point was about loyalty. That's what really started this.

Gallagher went from one of my favorite players, with me claiming he was a top 15 RW in the late 10s, to me hating him more than any player Ive ever seen in this jersey. (Yes, any.)

Hes absolutely dreadful, entitled and his attitude is downright ridiculous. Ever since the Subban fiasco hes been seen for what he really is, a locker room cancer.
We get it, you miss PK! But what nonsense. Total BS.

Well two years ago, he got 20 goals in 60 games. And the year before that he got 30 goals. And if we look at his season last year, he got 14 goals in 35 games which means he could have reached 30 goals. Probably could have had 30 goals those three years straight. You know when it dipped? This year! Only this year he had trouble and people are demonizing him. For a guy that left his heart on the ice, it sure didn't take the supposed fans long to get on his case. If it had been say 3 years of suckage, I would understand a little more. Not to mention the guy is banged up. Gervais was talking about this during his press conference. And we all knew this would eventualy happen.
Production went down.............salary almost doubled.
We all knew this contract, the cap hit and the term were gonna hurt, just not this soon.
Gally will hopefully rebound, and real soon.
Love the guy, but he did not play well, no matter the issues, and he needs to own it. As a big fan of his, I was disappointed, he looked awful out there, ALL year.

He was awful during our playoff run the year before too

I'm not sure Molson truly paid attention to these things. I think Bergevin had free reign. Now, as you said, he's stuck with it (or rather, Hughes and Gorton are.) I'm sure this is one reason he hired 2 people to run things.
MB should have learned from the Plekanec contract. But MB was who he was...

Gallagher was on a bargain contract for his prime, now is vastly overpaid. It actually kind of evens out for a few years - but not 6.

Injuries have caught up and I think he really needs to start changing his game a bit and work on mobility. he needs to cover ground a bit quicker and I think he has to be a bit more calculated in the Ozone. Love gally and with his work ethic/desire he should have a sporting chance at doing the mid-career shuffle to stay relevant. If he can't pick it up next year, then a conversation needs to be had. He's earned some second chances, but you'd have to think next season is the last one he'll get (especially under a new GM)

He’s impossible to trade so we’re stuck with him no matter what.

Again we cannot do anything about it. We don't live in the Marvel Universe, you cannot send the guy to a parallel reality.

Totally agree. The loyalty of some fans boggles my mind. He'll be lucky to get close to 20 again. Watch him try and skate these days! It's like he's in wet cement. There's no power on his shot and he still just shoots from everywhere at random. Doesn't even try to make a play or think. Yet he still gets PP time. I truly hope they won't be boneheads and give this guy the captaincy.
I'm wondering if Molson learned his lesson after letting 1 guy call the shots. Now there's 2.
Nick Suzuki will get the captaincy.

It's their job to do something if he doesn't improve.

Maybe but with that contract, there's not much that can be done. He cannot be traded. He's still a good player who work his ass off. And he played well in the last few games. So you put him on the third line and it should be fine. We're not soon making the playoffs anyway.

Nick Suzuki will get the captaincy.
Originally, I was hoping he wouldn't (Not right away). With him being our undisputed offensive leader. I didn't want to see him face a ton of additional undue pressure on top of that. After watching him battle this year though, I think he's ready.

Gallagher @ 5 years 6.5 mil

Or

Corey Perry @ 5 years 6.5 mil

Who do you take and why? I’m dumping Gallagher and taking Perry without thinking twice.

Is anybody actually surprised Gallagher has slowed down to a halt in his late 20s. He is small for the NHL as is and his play style is wholly inadequate for his body size.

Even if he didn’t suffer a plethora hand injuries that affected his shooting, he was always going to experience a very sharp drop in production. There’s a reason there aren’t any/more 5’9 grinders in the NHL still going strong after 8+ seasons.

He's dealing with pelvis area problems. Those take time to heal. He didn't have time to heal for ever. I'm staying optimistic. That's why he's so slow and has no endurance. He's 30, I'm expecting 30 goals next year!

Watching him play since the 2021 covid playoffs, there is absolutely nothing that would make me feel confident he will be hitting anything close to 30 goals.

However, one thing Gallagher kept mentioning in his season ending presser is how he finally has the opportunity to build is body back up properly, so let's hope that helps. It's plausible to say that this was a factor given that the cup was presented in July last year, with camps opening up in September. That's the shortest turnaround I've ever seen in any year, and it probably affects a gym rat like Gallagher more than most players.
