Yep, Parker is fodder to make up the numbers depth wise in Manchester. I saw him earlier this year when the Amerks came to Hamilton. He's a bottom 6 guy, just a guy.

As I mentioned earlier, McNabb from what I observed had a nice physical presence to his game, decent skater and a heavy shot. Played on the top PP unit and did sone PK that night I saw him play.

I liked his game even though it was a limited sample size of live action on my part.

I'm from Buffalo and was very excited about Braden McNabb as a prospect.

McNabb was dominant in the WHL has been an AHL all star each of the past 2 seasons. He won the hardest shot competition. He will stand up opposing players with open ice hits. He is also good offensively. He is a good physical defenseman with good offensive skills.

Maybe you did, i really wasn't a fan. The only solace is that we are lethal in the second round! Not sure if you guys watched the WJC but i was shocked with how good HF was..reminds me of a young Shane Doan who i watched play junior.

Yeah, Fasching reminds me of Doan and Landeskog, guys who have the kind of running-back thing going for them. But as others have said, position of strength to position of need, and McNabb is no slouch himself.

It's a whole lot of potential being thrown around today, but this trade also enabled the Gaborik trade, and it wasn't Fasching-for-McNabb straight up, so it's pretty hard to hate. Although I dislike losing Fasching and Des, it absolutely was not for nothing. There's a mission there and nothing to pity DL for. Unless you're the kind of person who is going "BUT LOOK AT SIMMONDS AND SCHENN TODAY BAHAHAHA LOMBARDI."

TSN had McNabb ranked 54th in his draft year and had this to say about him:

"McNabb could be this year's poor version of Cowan. Plays in all situations for the Ice and logs a lot of ice time on a d-core that is very young. McNabb was fresh off a great rookie season when he helped Canada's U18 team win gold at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament in Slovakia last summer. He has great vision and moves the puck tape to tape.

Has good mobility for a man his size. Needs to develop more of a mean streak and make competitors pay the price for being in front of his net. Will naturally get stronger. He knows when to jump up in the rush. A player that earned his draft position as the year went on. His big question is his grit and willingness to pay the price at times."

What's interesting is that the NHL comparable used to describe McNabb's style is that of former Kings defenseman Sean O'Donnell, who the Kings also obtained from the Sabres back in '94 for Doug Houda.

No question, Fasching had a good WJC but I also recall several years ago a kid by the name of Jarred Aulin had a good WJC for Canada. He was supposed to be a can't miss guy and an important piece in the Rob Blake deal. Unfortunately, Aulin just never panned out.

Prospects are just that, sometimes no matter how much homework you do or how certain you might feel about a young player, things just don't work out for whatever reason.

I wouldn't get too high on Fasching, while he seems to be progressing well, he still has a way to go in his development.

If McNabb turns out to be an O'Donnell type I don't think any of us would complain. Solid, responsible and reliable.

I remember being disappointed when the Kings lost him to the Wild in the expansion draft.

Anyhow, watched Tim Murray interview and obviously he thinks HF is the real deal. I do think we have a great scouts so the two seconds are awesome but going into today i would never have guessed HF would be dealt. Here's hoping McNabb makes it as we are shy on LD.

Usually, when you're a good hitter, it also means that you're a pretty good skater as well. In any case, it's nice to see him deliver those hits at the nhl level. With a little more polishing, I'm betting the kid will be on our playoff roster this year.

I read that as hfboards

Hopefully this produces better results than the Ellerby trade.

Meh, Ellerby was an uphill project and most of us had very low expectations. Florida and their garbage development spoiled him like a breakfast burrito left in a hot car.

Also, how long until the local news put up a picture of Donovan Mcnabb when reporting that the Kings got McNabb?

:laugh:Nice! Trust me if he ever gets any local So Cal news time it'll happen! The clowns on ch. 4, 5, 7, 9, and 11 will butcher it I guarentee!

Definitely speaks to the approach Buffalo has taken.

Pick ups like D'Agostini, Sulzer, Konopka, Tallinder...they are using these older vets as stop gaps so they don't absolutely destroy their prospects confidence. They know that this team is not a winner right now and these kids are investments they have to protect and develop until they are ready. I think it really scared them how big a drop off Grigs went through when they had him play in the NHL for a bit.

Completely changed him as a player for a while.

The converse to this argument is the Florida Panthers, who haven't been a winner for a while, yet they have shoved the likes of Shore, Gudbranson, Ellerby (to name a few) up to the NHL way before they were ready. They've paid for it.

Makes me really appreciate how well the Kings have developed their players.

McNabb will benefit immensely from a new setting. He's ready for the NHL for sure IMO.

He is a phenomenal body checker with a bomb of a shot and a good first pass. His footwork isn't great, but he compensates for it by being positionally sound and good with his gap control.

For various reasons, he was always on the outside looking in, never getting a consistent chance to showcase his abilities. I truly believe that once he gets into a groove and plays significantly in the league, he will be a mid pairing guy and a mainstay in the NHL. Should be a good fit for you guys.

Curious about Deslauriers. Anything?

Nick D is a big body with soft hands, Plenty of jam to his game.

Decent speed, below average hockey sense that needs work. Was moved from Defender to LW.

He is a project, that could pay off for Buffalo provided his hockey IQ gets better.

We drafted Fasching in the 4th round and Deslauriers in the 3rd.

Says a lot about our scouting and development if we were able to flip them for 2 seconds and a roster player.

Accurate assessment of McNabb. He's very alluring because of his cannon of a shot and crushing hits. I'm a little underwhelmed with his defensive awareness sometimes and foot speed, but he's definitely an NHL player in my mind - and possibly a pretty good one.

I think this is a good hockey trade for both teams. McNabb was considered an exciting defensive prospect for us when we drafted him in 2009, but then we drafted Pysyk in the 1st round in 2010, Jake McCabe in the 2nd in 2012, and Ristolainen and Zadorov in the 1st round in 2013. McNabb has gotten stuck behind a logjam and wasn't able to wow anyone enough in the few quick looks he got with Buffalo to become untraceable.

McNabb is still a prospect at this point, he probably won't have a chance to make the big club till next training camp.
