Pirri is showing himself to be the player he has been. Not unexpected.
Right. This is why Pirri was available late in free agency on a cheap deal. One trick pony that runs hot and cold. He's a nice depth player, but that's it.

Which is why I caution those who rejoice at Peumpel. Was going to say he rubs me as one of those guys who gets hot for single playoff series then drifts into the background again. He's never actually been to the playoffs. Powerplays are huge in April though, so we'll see.
He wasn't shooting enough.
5v5 shot attempts per 60 are down 4 since last year.
I think his deficiencies are heavily overblown on HFNYR, and I'd much rather have him in the lineup than Vesey right now. Or Puempel. Or Lindberg.
Would you rather him be in the lineup as he is now...or when he's doing what he's supposed to be doing aka MORE DAKKA
Thank god the worst player in the NHL is finally scratched!!!!
lol wait he's in and likely gettin 12 minutes tonight
Back on the bench, it seems. Rejoice!

#Slow (below NHL average skater)
#WeakOnTheBoards (usually but not always)
#AllHeDoesIsShoot (I do not think that is possible in the NHL)
#CantHitTheNet (exaggeration)
#GlassIsAShortTermFix (Glass is not a fix)
#HeWontBeInTheLineupEveryGame (few 4th liners play every game)
#TeamNeedsASpark (they do come out flat too often)
#DidIAlreadySayFloater? (yes you did say that at the top.)
Pirri is not nearly as good as some say but also not as bad as some people say like most players. With that said 4th line players are often on the bubble. There are many 4th line players in the NHL that do not play every game. Is it possible you are over reacting? Is Pirri sitting tonight or or the reincarnation of Mike Bossy?
I have this weird problem where I want the Rangers to ice the best possible lineup every night.
Somehow, I don't think playing Kampfer and Glass over Clendening and Pirri is doing that.
**** me, right?
EDIT -
This is the part where you say: "What has Pirri done to deserve being in the lineup?"
Then, I list a bunch of "advanced" stats, that show Pirri does not suck.
Then you say, he has 8 5v5 points all year (or whatever it is).
Then I tell you why that's more bad luck than anything, and even so, he's driving play.
Then you say, what is driving play?
Then I realize this isn't worth our time, and I stop replying.
Five days later, we'll do it all again.
Five days? That's giving us too much credit. More like...5 hours.

If Pirri was producing he would be playing.
This would be a valid argument if it was applied across the entire lineup. You don't produce, you don't play. I'm fine with that.
That's not how NYR hockey is run though.
EDIT - There are a ton of players on NYR right now that aren't producing. None of them are driving play like Pirri has been since he returned to the lineup full-time. This is illustrated by the fact that Pirri leads the team in 5v5 relative shot attempt percentage, and 5v5 relative expected goals percentage.
You know when I'll believe the "If Pirri was producing he would be playing" argument?
When Vesey sits.
When Glass sits.
I'm not gonna hold my breath.
Yes, this is exactly the conversation we've had before, which I tried to avoid. Because of all of those questions above you want me to answer "no" to, to prove your point, none of them seem to negatively impact Pirri's underlying numbers, which they would, if Pirri was actually terrible at all those things.
His underlying numbers are tops on the team since he was put back into the lineup on 2/23. He's not scoring. A lot of players on this team aren't scoring.
Jimmy Vesey is what people think Pirri is.
That's what I think.
We all want Brandon to be a big time player for us. I hope he ends up scoring 50 points for us but all we can go by is how he has played so far this season.
If the answers are no no no then maybe your "underlying numbers" are not showing you a totally respective version of his game. I know this sounds crazy but is it at all possible that the Blackhawks, Panthers, Ducks, and Rangers head coaches/assistant coaches might have had reasons to sit Pirri occasionally even if they do not show up in your "underlying stats"?
No, I'm smarter than every single head coach and GM in the NHL. I also want the Rangers to lose tonight, and for Vesey to bust, so I can say "nah nah, told you so" for the rest of my life.
Nicky, this is exactly the conversation I wanted to avoid.
Two adults with different opinions should be able to discuss them in a respectful manner. I'm not sure why you think it is so bad for somebody to have a different opinion. I'm not upset in any way with you or Brandon. I'm just stating my belief that Brandon has not played as well as you seem to believe (so far this season) and that I hope that he will play better. It is not that big of a deal. Oscar, Fast, Pump, Glass, and Pirri have all sat.
I actually would like both Clendo and Kamp to play in our next game.
Pirri is a bottom line player and PP specialist. Not an awful player, but I couldn't care less if he's on the team next year (or even next game).
My only real issue with Pirri has been all of the penalties he seems to be taking, particularly late in games. A lot of stick infractions and the type of calls that are indicators he's not moving his feet.
He's a depth forward that has a good shot. Not mad he's on the team, but, as surprised as I am to say it, I think I'd take the Tanner Glass we've seen the last few games since the callup than the Brandon Pirri we've been seeing for a few weeks now.
