They shouldn't be surprised. Question is why 29 other teams passed on a bargain contract guy who had already scored NHL goals. He wasn't even a priority signing for us. We signed a handful of other guys first and didn't sign Pirri for almost 2 months. In a salary capped league why did so many teams pass in a guy that showed he could score in 160 NHL games?

Why do what other teams think matter to you so much ?

I am happy with Pirri, I am ok with him being mainly offensive minded and produces as long as he at least ATTEMPTS to play defense.

I haven't gotten the sense through preseason hockey games or the one game we've played that Brandon Pirri doesn't attempt to play defense. I enjoy the partnership he has formed with our coaches. It appears he is sufficiently motivated to play the right way and knows what the coaches expect from him. Surprisingly, AV has given him a spot on the fourth line after coming into camp committed to a very defensive fourth line. Pirri must have been good enough without the puck to earn a bit of trust.

Count me in on the side that is perfectly fine having one dimensional players (offensive and defensive) playing specific roles on the team. We have enough two way depth that we can carry guys like Pirri and have the benefit of his skills early in games and not suffer by sitting him late.

Teams for decades had defensive specialists. An offensive specialist is not typical but it's also not cra cra

I'm not saying it's him 100% of the time I'm just basing it off his reputation for now.

This team desperately needed shooters. Adding Mika and Pirri is just what the doctor ordered. Not everyone needs to play the same two-way game. Someone needs to score or at least create rebounds.

They certainly have added another dimension to the team, its very refreshing

Something interesting I just noticed about Pirri is that his five most common teammates are all defensemen. Which basically means he's never been a part of a set line. Which can certainly hamper performance...

Thats more because of injuries than him bouncing around. He's been on the 4th line for most of the season. Unfortunately he disappeared sometime in November.

This guy should be on the waiver wire soon. Bring me Tanner Glass he will lead us to the promise land!!!!!

He has done some good things occasionally but he probably needs to raise his 5 on 5 play if he wants to play when everyone is back healthy this season.

If only we could combine Pirri and Hrivik.

Pirri can score but he's lacking in just about every other aspect, meanwhile you have Hrivik who's a really solid player but it seems like he just can't score at this level.

I don't think the scoring is that important right now for a guy like Hrivik. He's a 4th liner and is not really expected to rack up points. He does everything else well and keeps the puck off the opponents sticks. I also think he's a pretty good passer. Also, based on his play in the AHL, we know he's capable of offense. If allowed to play at the NHL for an extended period...I think eventually the points will come. Not in droves, but he'll get some here and there. He'll end up not being much worse than any other traditional 4th liner points-wise.

I think people are really starting to expect too much offensive output from 4th liners.

I would not be shocked if Hrviks even strength point production per game was similar to Pirris and Oscars ES point production this season

Hrivik had 1 point, an assist, in 158 5v5 minutes.

Do you really think Pirri has been that bad? Lindberg and Pirri both have just under 3x that production (in terms of points per 60).

Hrivik, Oscar, and Pirri all have had fairly low scoring at even strength but Hrivik and Oscar bring better defense and board work than Pirri. Hrivik had 2 points in 15 games. Did he play any PP?

Pirri has around 7 non PP points in 48 games. For a player who is supposed to be a offensive player that is disappointing. If a player is going to be lacking in defense, board work, etc he has to make up for it with very good offense.
