Confirmed with Link: Brady to Fla: 9oa, 25oa, 2029 1st, and a 2nd

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Lol that Minnesota deal would've been great but it would have been a longer retool. 1st round picks in '27,28, and '29 aren't getting us what the 9th overall but I could see Minnesota imploding.

They need a centre so badly, without one they aren't going deep in the playoffs. Brady doesn't move the needle for them. Hughes still has to play 30+ minutes a game with Brady being a 2nd line winger for them.

Seravalli said it’s basically always one team in these situations and gets reported as more to protect the players, which I’ve always believed to be the case. They give a list but in the end they act as UFAs and pick their top destination. This idea that they are going to be benevolent and go to their #2 or #3 team just to help out the org they’re leaving is total BS.

4 team list was a lie.

I just have a hard time understanding how this isn't tampering. Matthew has clearly been working on Brady to come to Florida. When a player has a full NMC and gets recruited by another team, how is that any different then a team talking with a soon to be UFA before July 1st? Both players get to pick their destination, so there shouldn't be any outside influences giving one team a leg up over the other.

I get that it's technically legal and the circumstances for this trade were unique, it just seems like a trend the NHL should be addressing.

This isn't super unique

Marner already knew he was going to vegas and said there were players he talked to.

Pretty sure players can talk about destinations with other players

There are no restrictions on players talking to each other.

There are for team employees.

Keith should get the hammer thrown at him for his part in this. An employee of a third team had a direct hand in orchestrating a player move between two other teams. But the NHL is not serious and would never do something to piss off that asshole. He just couldn't keep his mouth shut.

I'd also be looking at Guerin and Zito - I don't for a second believe that they weren't in multiple players ears.

Doesn't make it a lie. I'm open to these 4 - giving you some leverage - but in the end I just want 1.

That said, will we submit tampering charges against St. Louis to get additional compensation?

In some ways I would think 9OA, 2x1st, 2nd is on par with 4 lower 1st, but the team may feel differently. Looks like MIN does.

My understanding is that tampering doesn't apply to players. I could be mistaken though.

There clearly needs to be some restrictions in place on NMCs when the player himself asks out and still has multiple years left on his contract.

I don't get how it isn't instantly annulled or at the very least, investigated by the league to see if there's a legitimate reason for wanting out that isn't just "boo hoo hoooo I just want to play with me big brother on one of the best teams in the league boo hooo".

I mean, Staios straight up said it was one team only despite the list, so I don't know how this protected the player, in fact it made him look worse and probably pissed off a bunch of teams that made credible offers, risked their players involved in the offer getting leaked and pissing them off, it's just a shit thing to do.

Any player putting Vegas and Carolina(and Florida I guess but Brady had an excuse there) on their lists immediately looks like a clown.

It boils down to admitting you're a coward who doesn't want to work hard to win a Cup.

I don’t know, it’s unusual for the org to combat that idea.

Matthew Tkachuk’s PR train was heavy with the idea that he gave Calgary all these options and it did help him since flames fans were reeling from losing Gaudreau for nothing. Maybe Staios wanted no part of that so he squashed it to make it clear it wasn’t the case.

Weren't the Leafs going to submit a complaint about the Marner situation before Vegas threw them a bone with the sign and trade?

I would go scorched Earth on that family without a second thought.

NMCs should be voided if the player asks out. NMCs are supposed to protect the player if the team wants to kick them out. Not screw over the team if the player wants out.

The crap sandwich in this situation is Keith was reportedly boasting about making this happen at the Olympics. I get it when you don't have any proof. But when you do? Throw the book at them.
