The week leading up to the draft just got a lot more interesting.

The identity the team is trying to build is based on speed and defensive reliability, and Tkachuk didn't really fit either of those priorities. I’m going to wait and see what Staios does next before getting upset — with Tkachuk’s persona becoming bigger than his on‑ice impact, there may actually be an opportunity here to end up just as good, or even better, with the right moves. He had also become too much of a distraction, and if he didn’t want to be here, then so be it. Honestly, the team is better off with a new captain anyway — someone fully focused on hockey.

I'm not that sad to see him go, however I do think it reflects poorly on the franchise that Ottawa has now traded their last 3 serving captains. To go from Alfie to that is... rough (don't blame Karlsson though, I think he was a great captain that unfortunately got tangled up in some unfortunate off-ice stuff that wasn't his fault and had to deal with a spiralling Melnyk).

wtf happened today. I’m so tired. It’s been weeks worth of bull shit work at my job and nuts chores at home. I get this notification from my friends after I go to the dump to remove yard waste.

f*** Brady. f*** today. f*** all of this. What a pile of crap.

Bring Erik home. Draft like we did when we got Jimmy and Jake. Pry a good forward from someone.

We will be better for this but my god - what the hell came from left field today.

Not to pile on your shitty week or anything but no, we will not be better for this lol.

A lot of people got this wrong. @mysens and myself said it all along and we were laughed at and ridiculed. A lot of people here really thought Brady was going to play this contract out?

Man oh man , talk about living in denial.

Great return
I agree this is a really great return. Definitely a lot more than if Staois waited even one more months

If Staios can somehow land Tuch and Jason Robertson.

I genuinely feel bad for all the Sens fans who are fathers today. Like I can’t imagine just trying to be grateful for the day that is today for this to come out and hit you like a logging truck.

Absolutely gutting.

I pray you all had a great day and enjoyed your time with your family’s.

What do you mean lol.

Feels like we won the lottery.

Got rid of a cancer and got 4 high value picks.

Brady is a fake superstar that you'd have to pay superstar money which would essentially become an anchor.

You arent taking into account ice time

Brady average 18 mins of ice and can put up 30 goals and 70+ points.

How are you splitting that same icetime with Foegele and Zetterlund alongside PP time to produce that level of offense?
Brady played 3:17 of PP time, give half each to any other forwards (Zetterlund, Foegele, Greig, heck even Halliday) and their offense will increase. Brady has 13:36 minutes of ES ice, Foegle literally played the lowest ice time of his career with us so far. He'll get more ice, Zetterlund, Greig, Cozens, etc, will all get a bump in their ice time as well.

If we acquire a DeBrusk type player, they'll produce more than half of Brady's production alone

Obviously no love lost between Toronto and Ottawa, but I think it's better for you guys to have hit the eject button on Brady Tkachuk.

No team needs the will he stay, will he go BS, the cliquey podcast drama, team within a team Team USA nonsense and all the distractions that come with whatever good he does on the ice. Guy is a sideshow. I hope the Tkachuk Bros flop in Florida, and I think Ottawa will be able to draw a tighter circle around the players who want to be there.

Yeah Florida is about to destroy both our teams for the next five years but ok.

replacing 70 points by committe doesnt work. Its like the other poster saying we can get Foegele and Zetterlund 40 points each. Ya except Brady does that in 18 mins of ice time. How are you spliting that up with Foegele and Zetterlund so they can still get 40 points each in that amount of ice.

You are going to put them both on the PP ? You need skill to compete. There is no option to replace it by committee with a team that already lacks high end talent upfront

Because we're not going to be giving that time to Foegle and Zetterlund?

Can’t wait to see how shit a return Detroit gets with Larkin pointing a rifle at their head demanding a trade.

If the reports are true and he didn’t want to be here and the locker room didn’t either than I think we did well. Got 4 good/great pieces for him without acquiring cap. Some people are miffed we don’t get a roster player back but honestly the flexibility we have right now is envious.

And it’s been a shitty few months, heck years, heck even decades - but it is what it is (god I hate that saying).

Tkachuk didnt really f*** over the team. Its actually really good he let Staois know he isnt signing here this early. Its up the Staois to figure out the best return and make this team a contender.

We don't need a mitch marner situation here

He did apparently tell his teammates that he had no intention of extending which I did not know and is why the dressing room was ok with the move apparently.

It would also explain the urgency.

They don’t want a guy that doesn’t want to be here.

You never know. Maybe the picks work out and the team is better off in the long run.

In the short term, it seems terrible. The Atlantic division is so damn good as well.

At least this makes the draft and free agency more exciting…

And having a rising cap that the have nots and never haves can't match will just make it worse.
Thats what I've been saying.

Whether we like it or not, we will be in the have nots with a handful or two of other teams unless something gives.

Who would! I sure wouldn't.

Foegele has scored at a 31 point pace his whole career, and with regular top 6 time, 40+ points, last season in LA was an anomaly, as was his high production in Ottawa. 40 points is a safe bet from him. Zetterlund scored 33 while bouncing around the line up. Consistent line mates and 40 is a safe bet for him.

Like i said, its not the same as Tkachuk's 65-70, but it'll cover more than half of that. We're good enough to weather that. Even if we acquire some mid wingers like Roslovic, DeBrusk, those guys are safe bets for 20g, 40 points, and it helps mitigate the loss of Tkachuks' offense

Thinking Foegele and Zetterlund can cover for Tkachuk is WILD bro.
