The week leading up to the draft just got a lot more interesting.
The identity the team is trying to build is based on speed and defensive reliability, and Tkachuk didn't really fit either of those priorities. I’m going to wait and see what Staios does next before getting upset — with Tkachuk’s persona becoming bigger than his on‑ice impact, there may actually be an opportunity here to end up just as good, or even better, with the right moves. He had also become too much of a distraction, and if he didn’t want to be here, then so be it. Honestly, the team is better off with a new captain anyway — someone fully focused on hockey.
