- They'll trade multiple other players before this guy though.

This would be a HUGE mistake.

If the Sens make that deal their current playoff drought reaches AT LEAST 15 years because at that point it is FULL burn it down to the studs rebuild

The scenario:

Its the morning March 5th and the Flames are 9th in the West, 4 points out of a wild card spot. Craig Conroy gets to his office and is met by a phone call from an irate Murray Edwards who demands playoff hockey; "We've already been out of the playoffs for two years, three is unacceptable, make the playoffs or you're fired." Craig is told.

The Senators are having a terrible season. Ullmark continues to struggle, the defence is just abysmal, and Brady is under pressure by the media for not being" captain material". Management decides the core needs to be shook up.

The offer:

Matthew Coronato
Zayne Parekh
NJD 1st pick 2025

For

Brady Tkachuk

Please note - I am a Flames fan and I hate this idea, but it's the kind of dumb, panicked, short term decision I can see Flames management making.

The easy answer is just Robertson assuming Ottawa is prepared to give him whatever Dallas isn’t. On paper, its a lot like the other Tkachuk deal in that they can theoretically get out of a sticky situation not much worse for wear (theoretically, see: Huberdeau).
This seems like a really great idea tbh. Ottawa gets value out of a potentially bad situation, and gets someone they can market as a star. Dallas gets a piece that will help them immensely come playoff time

This one might have the Rangers written all over it...............Sens are looking to make changes and the Rangers are getting ready also....

idno if brady gets traded or where, but it feels like there's real potential for a surge in blockbuster type trades in the next few months. there's already quite a few teams around the league that with a frustrated front office that's also feeling heat from an increasingly frustrated fanbase. after seeing vegas bring in eichel and fl restructure their roster in adding tkachuk bring cups...i'd could see gm's feeling that pressure convincing themselves that they're also one bold move away from a cup. obviously those trades stemmed from players wanting to be moved, but it doesn't change that the results are what they are. it'll probably set some franchises back by like a decade, sure, but it might work out for some. it'll be fun, though i hope the rangers stay out of it knowing full well that's virtually inconceivable. there are names out there i'd love to add....i just know it'll be a disaster for that player in ny and they'll give up what becomes a comical overpayment. time is a flat circle.

I'd argue Meier isn't that comparable to Tkachuk as a powerforward for the reason that he doesn't fight very much (usually one time a year), while Tkachuk is a legit heavyweight.

You can say it shouldn't matter much, and I'd agree with you, but NHL GMs clearly think it is tremendously valuable and are willing to pay for it.

I'd point to what Anderson and Jeannot were able to return, despite having terrible seasons.
Also Timo Meier was not cap controlled. He was restricted free agent with a 10 million dollar qualifying offer.

Because they would trade Tkachuk? Why? They just went to a scorched earth rebuild in 2018, Brady wanting to leave wouldn't force them into another one.

Stutzle is the Sens franchise player. Sanderson will be their 2nd best player. Batherson and Chabot are actually not that far from Tkachuk. Norris is rebuilding himself after what many thought was career ending injuries. There's also Pinto, Greig, Yakemchuk, Kleven, Ostapchuk and maybe others. All of them are still pretty young. They have to start surrounding them better though, Amadio, Perron, Hamonic, Gregor, Cousins is again not good enough. Jensen and Ullmark is a good start, but need more.

Can someone who is informed/diplomatic/objective please answer....

Why in the world would the Senators trade Brady Tkachuk?

Unless he requested a trade and refuses to play there long-term, the Senators should fold if they trade a 25 year old all-around cornerstone piece and captain on a team that's rebuilding.

WTF is even going on here? These are just baseless rumors right?

Right...???

Keyboard dummies that’s all.
Sens management calls it’s utter BS made up nonsense, and they want to build around him they’ve said.

There are even fans on the board that say Sens are soft, then want to trade him.

None of those fans have played team hockey, and definitely not competitive hockey.
