He wasn't drafted out of the CHL so the CHL transfer agreement doesn't apply to him. He is already 18 so he meets the AHL age min.

AFAIK, that rule only applies to players drafted out of European leagues. That's why Mathews avoided that clause if Toronto had felt the need to send him to the Marlies. Otherwise my understanding was that the CHL/NHL agreement means any NA drafted player out of any NA league must go to the CHL if they're not an overager. Pretty sure there's been other cases of NCAA drafted players needing to be assigned to a major junior club?

Who can play where… and why. AHL age limit is 18. CHL and NHL have an agreeement to help CHL teams make money retaining their top young players longer. That's the basis and no such agreement exists with the NCAA or European leagues.

London is going to be very deep this year. No guarantee Tkachuk gets first line minutes there.
They won't be that deep... Tkachuk will be on the 1st unit pp. He'll PK .. Probably play both wing and C at times. Not worried about his ice time or the quality of the players he'll play with.

Once he signs, it's London or Ottawa. Belleville isn't an option for him since he's not an overager.
And once he's returned to London, he's there for the season.

He wasn't drafted out of the OHL though, so he could be assigned to Belleville.

I'm not sure if once he chooses to play in the OHL if that will change, but as of now he is free and clear to play in the AHL if he signs with the Senators.

My best-case scenario forward group:

Tkachuk-Moskal-Foudy
Formenton-Guskov-Dunkley
Stranges-McMichael-Popov

Panwar, Evangelista, Tymkin, Nelson, Whittaker, DuHart - some combination of that to round out the team. No doubt trades will have to be made.

That top 9 has the potential to be the very best in the OHL.
Snippet has a good example of the lineup

Having a chance to play on a great jr team would be a lot of fun and great development time to pass up, hope he doesnt dismiss it. Guess he'll have a chance to earn the 9 game trial though. Hard to believe he could actually earn a spot on this Sens this year, but best of luck Brady.

I hope we wears number 7

From Rundblad to Turris to Tkachuk...

Would be interesting to see how long we could maintain this continuity. Whoever Tkachuk is traded for (hopefully after a long and decorated career) inherits the number next.

I thought he would have returned to college but since he intends to sign a pro contract I don't see why he would go play in London than BU, regardless that London will have a strong team. We'll see but my guess is that he ends up in Ottawa for at least 9 games to hopefully draw some attention to the Sens this yr & sell some more tickets, similar to what they did with Lazar. They kept Lazar around as the potential captain of the gold winning junior Team Canada to draw attention & sell more tickets. I think they do the same with Tkachuk, he could even make the Ottawa squad & play on a line with White or Brown.

London develops players for the NHL, better than Boston University does. Look how the Hunters developed his brother.

Because it won't be a waste and will offer the best chance to develop his offensive skills?
Arguable he seems physically ready to play in the AHL and we can control his development there

Seems like a great opportunity that most players don't get

AHL, sure. I'd still rather London, and think the Sens will as well. Not worried about his physical stature whatsoever, it's his offensive skill set he should be developing.

NHL shouldn't be an option outside of the few game cup of coffee to start the year.
