His balance issues only seem to arise when he's working his edges. I'd actually say his balance is great - super hard to knock off the puck when he's braced for contact and so on - but his edgework is average at best and the source of his "struggles" currently. This is apparently an area he has improved on substantially but there is still substantial work to be done there. Once he fills out a bit he will be able to spend summers working on skating and I think that will be the key necessary step that must be taken in order for him to become a true 1st line player.

Could it also be a skate issue, perhaps? Or is it definitely mechanical (skating)? Hard for me to see much on a computer screen instead of a real tv.

I was out at dinner for a lot of the game so I cant really comment on last night, I didn't notice any balance issues yesterday but I would say its generally mechanical. A large part of that might just be 6'3 teenager gangly awkwardness. It really doesn't concern me much, it is something that you fix through work and Brady is a worker.

I wanted Zadina but Brady last night definitely gained some points in my books. He’s going to be a beauty. I like the potential nasty edge, he’s going to open a lot of space for other players, surround him with pure skill (Duchene)

First one was a beaut. For a guy who is 6 ft 3 that's crazy good agility/footwork.

Corey Perry esque, he was main the reason his second goal was scored too. But that had more to do with him drawing the penalty, anyone could have put that in. He looked really good last night, hound on the puck and always involved. He does need to get stronger in my opinion as he wont be able to play that style in the NHL yet. His potential is very high I just hope the team takes their time with him.

Really liked his snap shot off the crossbar.

He gets most flack for his shot, but that one seemed to be whipped pretty hard and quick. Don’t think the goalie was even screened. Beat him clean.

If he just stays in front of the net and puts pucks in like last night, that’s going to get him 10-15 goals a year just off that.

But you can see how raw physically the kid is. He is a beanpole, but just one of those guys with wiry, natural strength. The fact he’s winning puck battles, sometimes against older, stronger players is a good sign. Give him 2-3 years to add 20 pounds of mass, and he’s going to come out of the corner with the puck more times than not.

Yeah that was probably the best shot I've seen from him in the 20ish games I've watched of his over the last couple years. Looks like he worked on it over the summer.

Adding a good shot to his toolbox would make him so much more dangerous.

Ottawa's Brady Tkachuk will 'not take a backseat to anybody' - Sportsnet.ca
“The first thing I’m going to say is, I don’t think everybody is giving this team and this organization enough credit. We have a lot better team than people think. We’re going to surprise some people and be a force in this league,” he asserts, not at all sounding like a kid still looking to make his pro debut.
“I felt this was the perfect opportunity and moment to come in. I feel like I’m ready, I’ll get better throughout the year, and I’m going to make an impact right away.”
“I’m not going to take a backseat to anybody. I don’t care how old they are. All I care about is the guys in the dressing room. I’m going to be who I am and play how I always have.”

If Stone re-signs, he'll be Captain until he's not on the team. If Stone and/or Duchene leave though, they may go C-less for a few season until they feel Brady is ready for it (23?).

posted this in the radio talk thread, but simmer said the other day on tsn1200 that in conversations while interviewing for the AGM job, he learned that Dorion et al prefered Tkachuk over anyone by Hughes in the 2019 draft, so that's why they didn't give up the pick.

Makes sense in that they never gave up the pick if they truly feel that and it's not just saying what people want to hear, taking centers out of the picture all together I struggle to see Tkachuk > Kakko.

I definitely don't come close to agreeing with it, but I'm a nobody so it is what it is.

The comment came from Simmer when asked if he would have kept the pick. Doesn't seem like something the team specifically wanted made public just an off the cuff bit of hearsay.

Oh I understand completely.

Honestly, it just makes me much more uneasy about our brass
