There’s a bigger point to ‘how much does Brady want to leave on the table playing for Ottawa’. ? Taxes, no playoffs, small market, missed endorsement opportunities, old arena, prime years of your career on a losing team, O-trains always breaking down.

I think Brady is leaving a ton on the table with very little reward and that will become a factor at some point.
old arena, half the rinks in the NHL were built in the 90’s.

Brady is missing out on very little.
Outside of 3 or 4 players, NHL players ge maybe a few hundred thousand bucks a year in endorsements.
The tax argument has been shown to be less than people think when equalized for all sorts of factors.
There are lots of teams that suck for years, especially ones where high draft picks go.

…and did you really just say the O-train?

He signed and 8x8 which everyone thought was overpaid at the time, so seems like he didn’t leave anything on the table there, and he’s going to be a 40g unicorn UFA at 27 and is going to get PAID again on another 8 year deal.
Let’s say $11 million/year.
So $64 million + $88 million is a cool $152 million for a career.
i can see how missing out on $3-5 million in endorsements and a broken O-Train would really really be weighing on him.

No if you read what I wrote I’m saying if one Joseph was an All Star and going to the Cup finals playing on a top team and making max endorsement money and the other Joseph had an excellent game was an All Star but was stuck in a small Market bottom feeder and lost out on earning millions in endorsement from lost national exposure because no playoffs and no deep playoff runs then that Joseph would look to a sexier market with a chance to maximize his brand and earn millions over the next 10 years of his limited hockey career

The Tkachuk’s don’t think I’m terms of
Local schools and weather about where they play like we hope they do - these guys are into the business of hockey unlike any other family in the NHL and understand earning potential and maximizing their income
Nah, you said Brady was only in the commercial because of Matthew's success in the playoffs. I don't think that's it at all. If Matthew was still a Flame that commercial still gets produced. And Florida is not a sexy hockey market where a player can cash in on huge endorsements. At least in Montreal you get burgers named after you at McDonald's.

You’re right, he seems very happy. He’s getting everything he can right now out of his career.

Yeah I mean I guess you could make that argument. I mean you weren’t, but I guess you could.

To that argument I’d suggest that perhaps he’s not a huge immature baby and recognizes things take time. If he was happy right now I’d say trade him.
If in a couple more years we aren’t in the playoff then yeah…why would he re-sign?
Does anyone disagree with that?

wtf are you trying to say?

Dare I say that maybe this personal development could bring some much needed maturity to Brady Tkachuk?

Congrats to the happy couple. Time to be a man Brady!

You hit it out of the park. The part about endorsements is important to note, as there is a lazy assumption amongst fans that there are tons of endorsement opportunities for hockey players. The truth is that, outside a small handful of players, no one is really making serious endorsement money. One of the few who does make serious endorsement money, Auston Matthews, ironically does so partially because he plays in a hockey crazed Canadian market. RBC and Bet99 pay him because he is a star on the Leafs - they would have very little interest in him if he was playing in St. Louis or San Jose. Put another way, Brady has more endorsement opportunities playing in Canada than his brother Matthew does in Florida. Matthew would be lucky to have a deal with a local car dealership in Fort Lauderdale outside the ad he does with his brother and his mom.

Oh, and Auston Matthews' total endorsement haul last year? Estimated at about $2.4 million, or about 20% of his salary. And this is a top three player in the league.

Brady is the driver of this offense. He scores goals, gets a ton of primary assists and does a lot of uncredited dirty work (screens and puck retrieval). I think he had a bit of an off year. But if he is paired with Pinto next year, he probably gets 40 and pushes 90 points.

Why can't I get my twitter link to be embedded in the message?

Change x. to twitter. on the link you posted.

Access twitter using twitter.com not x.com and the link will automagically come in as twitter.

Love that Tkachuk has 3 straight 30g seasons. Can anyone even remember the last Senator to score 30g for three straight seasons? Maybe back when we had Heater or Spezza scoring in the 30s?

Yeah, would have been Heatley and Spezza in 08-09. Hoffman came close to 30 a couple times, but he probably the only guy that came close to that kind of consistent goal scoring here over a three + year period

Good post. Brady is the driver of this offence & all the other things he does is so under appreciated, he is a great playmaker & passer, he hits everything all the time, he takes faceoffs & fights when required & protects teammates. He has improved defensively, he picks his moments better & for a big guy gets his share of breakaways & can play with anyone. Who else on this team does all these things?

No one. But we’re terrible this season and it has people focusing on everything everyone does wrong at any point in time and little on what they do right. We’d be looking for a Brady if we didn’t have him, and I’d argue we’d still like another one or two of him… they just don’t really exist.

We have been looking for a Brady for 20 yrs & Alfredsson could have used one in his days.

What we need isn't for Brady to do more, we need more guys to do what Brady does.

I'm hoping Kastelic can be a bit more consistent in that regard (after checking, he leads the team in hits per 60), and maybe Ostapchuk will add a bit of it when he's ready to join the team full time. Kleven could also add some grit to the backend.

Dorion put these guys in a lose lose position. Neither Chabot or Brady are good enough to drive a team like the other top guys of the top teams in the league are.

But Dorion gave them the money and the standing so now if these guys don't perform as the best players they are failing. Even though they should be the 4th-5th best players on competitive teams and not the leaders or the players asked to carry, they are not good enough to handle the pressure of being those players.

And honestly it didn't help that the two worst players in terms of habits were Chabot and Brady, and every new player who came in had that to look up to. Play like these guys and you will get retirement money and be considered leaders.

DJ and Dorion f***ed this team.
