its never a good look when you let a guy ragdoll you around and beat on you without defending yourself.
I also watched and thought to myself that neither Keith nor Brady would have played that situation like that, definitely not Keith, hopefully not Brady (hasn’t looked like THAT guy so far).
As always I think back to “what would Neiler do” in situations like this because I think he was the absolute perfect player in this regard. He had a rep that he was fearless and would fight anyone. He also hit like a Mack truck but walked the clean hit line and wasn’t a dirty or cheap player. Having said that, he also knew that sometimes not fighting was the best way to help your team, and was able to pick and choose a little more, especially after having established his stellar rep.
Neiler May also have walked away from that fight at that time, but you can bet that once the linesmen failed to get in between, he would never have let himself be humiliated into a Chara-Esque McCabe ragdolling, followed by repeated hammers to the head. No, Neiler would have beat down Kassian and shrugged his shoulder as circumstances weren’t going to let him dodge the fight this time.
I guess my point is that dodging a fight can be effective sometimes, but that time wasn’t a good look, especially when that was the third big hit on Kassian of the night, MT was clearly targeting him.
Anyways, as a fan I never like watching my team play like that, but I’m not a fan of Calgary, or Boston for that matter, so I don’t care that much.
