i was thinking Nash for Vatanen...and then Zucc for a first and a second or something.

Zucc would have to return Trouba in my opinion. He's a top line, elite forward in this league, he should be returning high end players

I do Nash for Vatanen any day, then sign Shattenkirk. Financially it's feasible assuming Staal can be moved sometime soon

McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Vatanen
Staal-Clendo/Smith
Clendo/Staal

I don't even know what his corsi is. Lindholm is very close to elite defensively. He's the best defenseman in that draft defensively, and while he's had a down offensive season, he's been about a 30 point per season player, which is good. Vlasic has never hit 40 points, doesn't mean he's not one of the 20 best defenseman in the NHL.

skjei wasnt that hard to call

his skating was always superb. his stride is smooth and effortless. wheels like that make things easier.

I think the consensus was that he was safe.He was very likely to play in the NHL, just maybe not in a core role. Skjei was seen as being solid in all areas, but not necessarily spectacular in any area other than skating --- which was considered top rate.

The early comparisons in his draft year was a Bret Hedican type. An excellent skater, two-way defender, who doesn't necessarily show up on the stat sheet.

The point totals have been what's eye catching, along with the fact that the game evolved in a way that seems almost tailor made for a defenseman like him. From a point production standpoint, he's already bested Hedican. Onward and upward.

I thought he'd be above-average defensively or better than above average along with excellent skating, which is probably a good middle pairing defenseman. The points are what is really surprising. If he keeps scoring points like this and makes the improvements defensively that I think are eventually expected, he could be a good top pairing defenseman. Funny thing that now we are just waiting on the defense. Before it was would the offense ever come.

I don't think your getting much more than vatanen for . huge contract and meh stats the past few years.

Ok, but why? Vatanen sucks. I'd rather have Nash. And why on Earth would we want to deal Zucc for draft picks? He's arguably our best forward.

his mind was always that of a defensive first player. with confidence comes the ability to carry the puck and make plays. brady becomes a forward at times with his stride and ability to recover. hes smart enough to think the game at speed and talented enough to play without thinking. think about that...

the comparison between him and mcilrath is striking.

skating. brady
defensive ability. brady
hockey iq. brady
hands. brady

fists. dylan

Even in Skjei thread you manage a pot shot at McIlrath. Move on man.

Our boy is one point away from 40! Not bad for a "defensive defenseman" in his rookie year.

I didn't expect him to hit 40 this year, but I see him as a perennial 30-40 point guy moving forward. His hands and vision are too good to not rack up a bunch of assists every year.

Skjei has been a treat despite some normal growing pains. Hopefully no slump next season. With the way our other D has been playing for long stretches we really needed this, too. And maybe Graves can come in soon.

Only problem is that they're all lefties. If Skjei had been a righty we'd been in such a great position now and for the off season. Imagine...

I do love the 1-2 punch down the left of McD, Skjei. Highly mobile two-way guys who can play a ton of minutes and be decently physical. Like Smith too. Now to get some righties and jettison a few guys lol.

So what kind of player do you guys think he'll be in his prime. I love homegrown guys like him and am very excited. If he becomes a a 30-40 point version of what we thought were drafting, he'll be probably good enough to be a #1 D-man in this league.
