I'm not sure if someone has mentioned this yet, or if this has been a trivia question, but it should be:

Who was the last Rangers rookie to hit 30 assists?

Did a quick check on this, and I honestly think we have to go all the way back to Tony Amonte. Crazy stuff.

skjei wasnt that hard to call

his skating was always superb. his stride is smooth and effortless. wheels like that make things easier.

his mind was always that of a defensive first player. with confidence comes the ability to carry the puck and make plays. brady becomes a forward at times with his stride and ability to recover. hes smart enough to think the game at speed and talented enough to play without thinking. think about that...

the comparison between him and mcilrath is striking.

skating. brady
defensive ability. brady
hockey iq. brady
hands. brady

fists. dylan

I don't think many could have predicted this offensive output from Skjei. Just a fun fact, he's scored as many points this season as his last seasons at Hartford and Minnesota COMBINED.

I'm not quite sure if Skjei's offense will normally be in the range we're seeing this season, or a bit closer to the 30 point mark. But if he can indeed chip in his 5-10 goals and 40-plus points, that's the cherry on top.

I think he got a lot of "lucky" 'points early on but I also think his passing and offensive game has grown a lot by this point in the season, so the luck versus developing game might even out a bit.

I like that he can and will skate the puck out of trouble and out of the zone, the Rangers need more D who can do that.

You mean back when we were on pace to score 410 goals on the season? Yeah, I think a lot of our players got some nice stat boosts early on.

That said, we're still a very deep team. But those first few months where we were scoring almost 5 every game were crazy.

If nothing else this proves to me that in todays NHL and in AV's system, if you can skate you are gold. And when you add up all the other nice tools Brady has to play with you get an awesome prototype two way defenseman who projects as an offensive dman in the near future if he isnt already.

Skeji still has a lot of work to do on the defensive end but I expect that to come in time. Another example of why NHL teams want to get players away from the Minnesota system so they can develop properly.

Seriously? Guy is a stud defensively, especially among the other Rangers defenseman. I think it's just assumed all rookie defenseman who put up point are weak defensively, whether that's the case or not.

So as bad as half our D is, is it possible that in future years McDonagh and Skjei will be the best 1-2 punch on D we've had since the Leetch days (would it be Leetch/Zubov?) That's if McDonagh pulls his head out of his ass and Skjei continues improving.

He might be the most overrated player from that draft.

This is a joke, right? He's fine and all but he's pretty much a #3 being played as a #1 and getting outmatched pretty severely because of that.

It's a joke referring to how Brian Burke called him the best player in the draft and how some TML fans were still defending that as recently as a year ago, lol

Trading Skjei would be a huge mistake.

id trade anyone for the right deal. but trading skjei for the sake of trading skjei would be dumb.

just like JT Miller.

Guys id look to move:

Zucc
Nash
Stepan (for the right return)
the wonder twins
klein
holden

hypothetically if you could trade Zucc and Nash and pick up someone like Vatanen and a few draft picks...a first for sure...

then trade klein and holden for draft pucks...a 2nd and 3rd or 2 3rds or something.

Buyout Girardi

Lose Raanta in the expansion draft...

Go with something like this...

Kreider - Zib - Buchnevich
Vesey - Stepan - Miller
Grabner - Hayes - ?????
Fasth - Lindberg - Brian Boyle

McDonagh - Shattenkirk
Skjei - Vatanen
Staal - Smith

Henrik
Some magical replacement goalie who is awesome like Talbot and Raanta have been

Not sure if its financially feasable...but man..that defense is sexy.

I'd be really skeptical of trading both Nash and Zucc. You'd be losing way too much offense. Vatanen is not worth Zucc IMO.
