some pretty terrible questions

shoulda asked him how tf he builds teams

and why he give awful long term contracts .. was it bc of calgary or was it because ur stupid ? valid

Interesting that he focus’ on Matthews as a priority and there hasn’t been a whisper about Nylander who is in the same boat.

Part of me believes despite the talk about the core 4 possibly not changing, Nylander will be the one shopped around. They won’t give him away but they’ll probably see if a deal is there that makes sense.

He did mention contract "issues" and I think that lumps Nylanders situation in there. But yeah he mentioned AM a few times and I think it was good to see a lot of emphasis on making that his top priority.

I love Nylander a lot but he's a notch lower here.

Presser is vanilla pap. We learned nothing.
He's as noncommittal and hazy in his answers as John Ferguson Jr. was minus the stammering and the cliches. He's completely measured. There isn't a hint of self-satisfaction. I suspect we'll never know what he's thinking or doing next the entire time he has this position.

Affable personality which I think will go over well with the media and the fans at least until things get ugly.

Otherwise his answers all stuck me as very safe and I didn't get the sense he had any bold ideas about what he wants to do with the team. Mostly just complimented people here but obviously left himself outs if changes are going to be made.

Which is exactly what he should do. You’re gonna lose a lot of people just coming in and saying this is everything that needs to change before actually doing any due diligence.

Thanks for this.

The big restriction is apparently he can't be at the draft table per Friedman.

Kind of dumb imo. I can understand it for the first round or at least until after the Leafs first pick. Cant see Treliving having much impact on our 5th and 6th picks.

He really wouldn't have much of an impact regardless but yeah, it's a little weird. I don't think it'll affect much other than maybe the move up/down scenarios we sometimes see but I'm sure Pridham and Clark can manage that without a problem.

He has an excellent relationship with Judd Muldaver, Brenden Pridham, Dubas, Lou, Nonis and Burke. High praise for Dubas and Pridham.

Without moving a core 4 piece nothing will be improve because there's no cap space to improve the D. Re-tooling helps but is not a real long term solution.
I believe the solution will eventually turn Nylander into a top pairing Dman in time, That should have happened at the time of Tavares signing in fact.

Moving a big Salary Cap piece from forward to defense.

Can't expect him to give away his plans in the presser but let's hope change is coming and in a good way. Don't sign Zadorov to 4x4 July 1st for example

I'm behind on my stream, but i cant imagine the backlash Dubas would get here fiddling with the glasses saying "our data says we check often, second in the league, and thats a testiment to our star players and coaching"

I want him at the table more so for draft trades rather than the draft itself. Like what if the Wings are on the clock at 9 and they offer you 9th overall+ for Nylander. Sure Trelving can call his scouts and see whether or not they want 9 or if a player they like is on the board but it slows the process down. Hard to negotiate in that 5-6 minute window.
