Building from the net out with a strong defence is never a bad way to go. This I’m on board with.

I still think it’s a mistake to bring back the core, we need a different voice, dynamic and play style on the ice. Guess they need to see it again.
The way I see it a new GM does not want to upset the apple dumpling core 4 and make big waves early as there is more pressing needs.

However Nylander currently only has a NTC that he can name 10 no-fly list in his final year. So Treliving can at any time during the season beyond July 1st still try and trade him for a top 4 dman (if available).

ie. Like a Nylander for Ivan Provorov.

I think the big change to the core 4 happens with the expiration of the current boat anchor $11 contract of JT in 2 years, where his salary cut in half or less to stay or they walk away.

This combined with Matthews and Marner extension and raises to attempt to try and alter the core and get the Leafs out of Cap Hell eventually,

I think with the mess Dubas left the Leafs in you have to slowly transition out of it over the course of the next couple of years as current contracts end. IMO

That is absolutely brutal for the leafs. Provorov has been a mess for a few years now.

Today I identify as an insider, Transider is the proper term, I think Treliving will or will not trade a core player for another core player, he will or will not sign UFAs, he will or will not move up in the draft.
You sound like Dreger....

I know stuff can change, but bringing the entire core 4 back will make it extremely difficult for me to stomach watching games.

I'm so over their failures at this point. They just don't have "it"
Agreed....and they'll be stuck with these playoff losers for years..

We honestly need a two way guy. A Brandon Montour guy IMO. We need more offense from the back end. I think we had one of the lowest offensive output from the back end.
That's what I'm looking forward to most about Treliving.

Dubas didn't know a proper D to save his life. That D that Treliving had put together in Calgary was far better and more versatile. Maybe a hard shot from the point won't be illegal on the Leafs anymore.

Apparently Treliving has tried to acquire Schenn multiple times at deadlines etc, and now it seems like an easy task to just re-sign him and fits a mold he generally likes.

In terms of Kampf, I think he's going to get 2.5-3.5M range...he's gonna look at Lowry and think he's somewhere around there.

I think there is very little chance Kampf even gets the lower end of that range

Does anyone know what TV channels will carry tbe coverage? I’m on sportsnet currently

then do it
If my hometown team wasn't Toronto I likely would have moved on years ago.

I lived in Ottawa for a while. Coincidentally when they were actually a pretty good team. I developed a soft spot for them I still carry to this day.

But Leafs are, and always will be, my hometown team, and therefore the team I cheer for most.

Even if they do make it hard to cheer for them sometimes.

Treliving spent 9 years building a team that missed the playoffs.
Good point.

My understanding is there was a lot of interference by ownership. The Flames might actually be an even more dysfunctional team than the Leafs. Most Canadian teams are pretty garbage right now though, so that's not saying much.

Hockey in Canada has become a disgraceful embarassment.

Dubas believed Justin Holl was a top 4 must have and untouchable player on his vision of Leafs defense. He even gifted Seattle Kraken a 40 goal scorer in Jared McCann to protect and keep Holl in expansion.

Most knowledgeable Leaf fans saw Holl as highly expendable, and at best a #6/7 dman on a Cup competitive team.

Dubas gave away 2 X 2nd round draft picks for a 38 year old Giordano, who is now about to turn 40 and the oldest active dman in the NHL, and ran out of steam in the playoffs, while blocking and removing 23 year old Sandin and trading him away.

What else needs to be said?

Hopefully Treliving takes a chainsaw to Leafs current defense core replacing at least 1/2 of the current group ideally and builds the Leafs from the goalie out, through a strong defense.

I’m with you. As far as I’m concerned I’m “over” all the excuses for this core

I think you speak for many of us
The fans should be outraged at this pathetic excuse for a team.

So typical they just eat it all up and keep paying big bucks at the ticket booth and fan shop.

At least they aren't in last place anymore is the most common refrain I hear. Hardly an accomplishment to be proud of. Thirty one teams in the league don't come in last place every year.

The Leafs aren't unique in not being the worst team in the league.

We can all dream about the upcoming "big splash" but history shows that BT doesn't jump to immediate conclusions. He made 1 minor trade during his first 7 months as Flames' GM.

Without moving a core 4 piece nothing will be improve because there's no cap space to improve the D. Re-tooling helps but is not a real long term solution.

So he won't confirm Keefe is returning but sounds to me like he's leaning that way.
