I'm considering not renewing my sportsnet subscription. Tired of watching the same thing, or maybe I'll just pay to watch the 2nd half of the season and playoffs when there are stakes. I'm also tired of paying $200+hst for 50 leaf games. It's not a great deal. I'm aware of alternate services but I just don't like dealing with what comes with that

There are 32 teams, expecting a cup for anybody is a reach.
However if Woll stays healthy and is able to prove that the flashes he's shown are real, I think this team has the talent to do it.

On this board a NMC means the team and player are not allowed to discuss a trade. Based on the posts I’ve read, I believe some think that it would be illegal to try and negotiate a trade and the NHL would void it.

If they sign Marner, Tavares, McCabe, and Knies before next summer then the cap increase is already spoken for (yet again). Nothing significant will chance so long as Matthews/Nylander/Marner are making 11-12m+.
Lets hope so. The media will be screeching at a fever pitch in Dec/Jan to sign him (Nylander 2.0).

I doubt they will.
The media is set on “extend Marner based on this year’s playoff performance”.
Which seems silly. If he does well, that’s 1/9 in playoff success.
11% is a bad score IMO.
I like Marner but he can’t be resigned if you want change.

I’d explore every avenue that could better the team, call me crazy but isn’t that’s what a GM’s job is……….
One can wish, but I’m not convinced the idiots who run the team are bright enough to not resign him to another overpaid contract……..
Wait until hes top five in scoring in the first half of the season. They'll all be begging Tre to sign him to the 12-13m hes demanding.

and those same media dbags will be trashing him in may because too many cap dollars are tied up in too few players. Rinse and repeat.

It lacks name recognition and a true stud 1A, but it’s deep. Strong mix of veterans and youth with pro experience.
Having a high ceiling prospect like Hildeby, who is arguably ready for a NHL look, that low is a nice luxury.
I wouldn’t rank them that high, but if you’re bullish on the unproven tandem of Woll/Stolarz, it could be a sleeper bet.

But hey, so long as we are healthy, we should be MUCH better in net. That has been our biggest issue (though some are still convinced its the core) in my opinion. If Woll can just stay healthy and play to his potential, it should help us take that next step we've been long awaiting.
As far as goalies go Treliving's got Dubas beat by a country mile, but that's obviously not saying much.
Stolarz was the missing piece? They had all the same goalies last year...
It seems weird that the cup winning backup pushes a team ahead of the cup winning goalie.

During a one-on-one interview with TSN’s Darren Dreger on Friday, Treliving was asked whether it is fair that he is labelled as someone leaving no stone unturned which has followed him dating back to his time with the Calgary Flames. He was not afraid to admit that it is true while adding he feels it is part of what he needs to do so he can be successful as a general manager.
“I know I got criticized like, ‘Oh, always the bridesmaids and stuff,'” Treliving said. “Listen, you’re not involved in every deal, right? But I think the job is, as all managers are, to know what’s going on in the league. And our job is to try to help our team whenever we can. Sometimes, deals aren’t feasible for whatever reason or the cap doesn’t fit, but I think our job is to know what’s going on. You try to stay as engaged as you possibly can to see what’s happening. If a deal happens in the league and you’re not aware of it, shame on you.”
Treliving doesn’t mind being labelled as someone who likes to be in on everything because he feels that it is the only way he can keep track of whether this is something out there to help his team be more successful. Not every deal out there is going to materialize for one reason or another, but to him, it is better to be engaged and not get any player out of it than to avoid the happenings and regret missing out later.
Treliving feels that the rest of the league is trying to do similar things to him because it is what comes with the gig of being a general manager.
“It’s a good group of managers. There’s lots of communication,” he said. “Everybody’s competitive and trying to help their team. But to me, that’s the job. The job is to make sure you’re engaged, you’re in the conversations, and you know what’s happening. All these deals, a lot of them take weeks, if not months to have dialogue. The job is to make sure you’re aware of what’s happening and if there’s something that makes sense that can help your team, you certainly want to be involved in it.”
The ranking seems to have some critical flaws, like looking only at regular season results from only last year, extrapolating small samples, and weighing #1, #2, and #3 goalies equally. This is the least we've ever spent on goaltending in the Matthews era, and it's the most unproven tandem that we've ever had in the Matthews era, so it would be pretty funny if we got the best goaltending results in what has at least historically been one of the best goaltending divisions with some of the best goalies in the league, but hey, anything can happen when it comes to goaltending.
