Gregor won the competition between individuals with or seeking the league minimum contract that we needed because of Reaves.
The individuals were Gregor and Lafferty. Lafferty does not have a league minimum contract. He makes 1.15M. Gregor just had a better camp and does the sane as Lafferty for less. It an easy decision.

I find it interesting that the same crowd that raged for years about Matthews, Marner, Nylander taking up so much cap space that this team couldn't afford a bottom 6 that was filled with minimum wage players are now all of a sudden handwaving away a bottom 6 made up of overpaid players that do less than the our bottom 6 from years past because Treliving was "just experimenting".

Same crowd btw that once valued cap space so much, they wanted to give up Marner in the Kraken expansion draft for cap savings.

How do you know it’s the same crowd, is there a list somewhere?

Its crazy that people are struggling to understand we handed a 4th line spot to Reaves and that cost us a 4th line winger in the process. You can argue he could have outplayed Gregor for the job, theres some logic there, but to pretend our 4th line RWer signed for 1.35M didnt impact the current 4th line RWer is beyond insanity

To me the biggest value Reaves has brought to the team is the daily hysterics he's causing people to post on HFboards, such as this

I doubt you’d have found more than one or two outliers that supported the idea of giving marner away for nothing. That’s a very extreme opinion
I've been banned for naming names before here so I won't. But lets just say it was more than one prominent user.

The idea was that we'd give up Marner in the expansion draft and use the cap savings to sign Max Domi, David Savard and Ryan Suter. The tough grit we needed to punch our way to the Cup finals.

No, Lafferty has a 1.15m contract. That's why he was traded. He did not have and was not seeking the league minimum contract that we needed due to Reaves.
Gregor was just the best league minimum option, after Reaves - who was much worse than both - cost us Lafferty.
Yes, he has a 1.15M contract. He also lost his spot to Gregor.

What is worse than that are the people refuse to understand that Gregor beat out Lafferty for a job.

What a Mess that would have left the team.

Gregor got the job because signing Reaves for what we did and handing him Lafferty's spot on the roster meant we didn't have the cap to keep Lafferty on the roster as well.
Lafferty was our best 4th line RW option, and no matter what you want to believe about Gregor, a top-2 winger for the 4th line.
We would have been able to keep him like the team wanted, if not for Reaves. Reaves cost us Lafferty.

lafferty was not enough good to stay in line up last playoff when leafs played with full line up and was healthy scratch... and the funny thing its your reacting like toronto should had lost an amaizing player they can't easily replace..

Yes Lou was great 30 yrs ago. He's been awful the last like 15 yrs.

Same with Holland. The guy built some of the best Detroit teams of all time but how has he been doing the last 15 yrs? Time passes people by.
He may be awful now but Lou has his hands all over this team.
