Brad Treliving is doing a great job.

don''t know where to put this and i don't want to start another thread; thought this thread might be more apt

Aug 12, Leafs are still about 3 million over the cap accounting for LTIR; who is getting dealt/shedded from the roster by Tre before the season starts?

I've been wondering about this too.

I don't see an easy path to cap-compliance. What comes next?

Numerous writers have analyzed Marners game and discovered that his game isn't among the elite. I've posted a handful of the articles. Show me another star player where numerous writers have highlighted their shortcomings as much as him. Where there's smoke there's fire. The authors cited numerous advanced stats that he's lacking in.

If you put up 99 points your game is among the elite regardless of what the "advancef stats" or the writers say.

You can't put up 99 points and not be elite.

That's impossible

Send down Robertson, Holmberg, Gambell and Jones

That covers it.

Although it does lead to an 11/7 lineup

Marner has all the playmaking and defensive skills of Dougie, what he lacks is the fearlessness and meanness that earned Gilmour the nickname 'Killer.' Gilmour was a playoff performer from his rookie season up until he retired. Mitch has had like 3 good series out of 8 and part of the reason for that is he lets the pressure get to him and he chokes. Obviously, Mitch's career isn't set in stone, there's still plenty of time for him to flip the narrative. He doesn't even need to become as nasty as Gilmour was (though it wouldn't hurt), he just has to stop letting the moment get the better of him.

FYI, that ain't why he was nicknamed Killer (unlike what most media types say). You may want to look up the most famous person that was nicknamed Killer and what he and Gilmour have in common.

I really like the Domi, Bertuzzi, Reaves, Klingberg moves. But the key to everything is what he can convince Matthews to sign for. This year is looking like an "all in or bust" season.

I was wondering the same thing; even with Murray and Muzzin LTIRed for the year, the only way I could fit Toronto under the cap (600K leeway) without further trades on CapFriendly was to build a minimal 20-men roster (12F-6D-2G); hardly sustainable.

Hardly any money to shed on G or D… Every single forward over 2M has a NTC…

Curious to see how Treivelig manages things onwards; could selling Nylander for futures (Cost-efficient RFA + picks) be his card to solve the Leafs’ cap issues and depleted draft capital in one stroke?

Now that Matthews is signed he's done everything he NEEDED to do.

Needed toughness? Got it done

Needed scoring depth got it done

Needed goaltending depth got it done

Needed to sign Matthews got it done.

All that's left is Nylander and while that would be nice to get done you can go into the season With him.

I don't believe Jarnkrok has a no trade clause, although he's a handy guy to have on the team.

Fire him now before he further messes things up

He still needs D, competitive leaders, and overall team toughness and he gave himself a very short window to get it done.

Untill our superstars start perfoming in the PO´s, we are going nowhere. Nowhere.
No ammount of complementary grit and grind players will make up for the extreme lack of it in our core players.
And i don´t see AM, MM, Willy, JT and MR all getting a sudden sharp rise in testicular fortitude all of a sudden.

Most star players don't PK.

Tavares plays the position that NHL teams most covet. Winger is probably least coveted.

Center is significantly more difficult to play then wing. Dubois just got nearly 9 million per year and he hasn't broke 28 goals or recorded more than 63 points.

Tavares had one of the best faceoff win % in the league last season

Tavares led the postseason in faceoff win % with 63%.

Faceoff experts are highly coveted.

Tavares had the game 6 game winning goal. Sounds like nothing, except when's the last time a maple leaf scored a gwg in an elimination game?

Tavares had 20 slot shots on net in the playoffs, twice as many as the next leaf.
Dude did you watch the playoffs?

Tavares just stood in the slot and was set up for tap in which he missed consistently

Game 2 vs Panthers nylander gave him like 3 or 4 tap in and he missed

Tavares is the worst player of the big 4. He can't play without marner or nylander and be effective/productive anymore

Marner or Nylander + Kampf/Engvall Bunting type line was still a line you could throw out there

JT was/is always played with one of them b/c he is pretty cooked. Can not create offense for himself or his linemates any more

Since when is 5 years a short window? Because he's got another year on his current deal and now he's signed a 4 year extension beyond that so It's really a 5 year deal
