Brad Treliving is doing a great job.

its easy to say that but wich D was available last summer? Karlsson? to do something with D, you need to have player you need available and it was not the case last summer
That’s a fair point too. He did the best he could with what was given. There was no defense so he went with one year deals to add depth to the forwards.

To quote the Wire, the price of the package is gonna go up in the off season. If Nylander continues at his current pace he's gonna set of a bidding war and could potentially leave the team for free. Conservatively let's say he puts up 40/50/90. You're not getting a pending UFA back at $10.5x8 in a year where the cap is gonna be jumping up $4 million. Thats why playing hardball with him was a bad move. It especially looks bad when Treliving seemingly caved to the likes of David Kampf and Ryan Reaves.
I think the Matthews extension was the top priority. Tre got here and had to dive right into the draft and FA his 1st month here without knowing anything about the team or players/staff. I highly doubt he's the one playing hardball here if that's what's going on, especially considering Nylanders camp already had him sit out for half a season to play hardball on his last contract.

so basically we're back to endlessly bitching how Reaves who plays 5/6 mins a night when he plays destroyed the team
Again, why are we fixating on the low TOI when we’ve seen that limiting his ice time still results in him costing the team wins. It doesn’t matter how few minutes it is when it’s not NHL caliber.

No better way to establish yourself as a clown than to whine about Reaves criticism. This is a Brad Treliving thread. It is relevant to ask why the GM gave someone who was known to be bad a 1.3x3 and then the team deemed them unplayable after 14 games.

- Tre f***ed up singing him
- why did he sign him - probably thought he could still play limited mins and add some physicality combined with a big personality to liven up the dressing room , he's been wrong so far

there's no problem criticizing the move but some are acting like it's some long term unmitigated disaster that's unrepairable and will doom this franchise for years

he's getting scratched but i doubt he'll be sent to the minors without getting in a few more games , however if he continues to be a liability then it's a simple fix that'll cost us a couple hundred K in cap space , so not good but not devastating like as i said some are making it out to be

so if you want to call people clowns for not ripping there hair out over Reaves then have at it but i'll continue to be concerned over far more important issues with the team than a fringe player who's easy to dispose

I haven’t seen anyone insinuating that the Reaves move in isolation is a disaster that will doom the franchise lol. That’s either a strawman to discredit the Reaves criticism or just a complete misunderstanding of what people are saying.

However, if someone wants to argue it’s a disaster that the guy making decisions thought it was a good idea to give Ryan Reaves a 1.35x3 in 2023, I will entertain that. Personally I wouldn’t go that far yet but how could you blame people? The first order of business was to secure a liability that everyone knew was a liability and a month into the season it has costed them games and soon salary cap space

Nice to see a Rangers fan come here and call people clowns. They don’t give you enough attention over on that board and you are here looking for friends? Nice user name loser.

If BT can keep Nylander below or around $10 mil and JT comes off the books and/or re-signed at 1/2 price the Leafs the Leafs could enter the Treliving era with only 2 X double digit forwards as the Cap continues to rise by $4 to $5 mil per season. There will be a real opponitunity in time to correct this IF BT makes the right moves.

The same things that are wrong with this team still reside from past mistakes of tooo much $$$ in tooo few players with core 4 eating up 1/2 your cap and weak coach, and a team built from the forwards in instead of from the "Goalie out, through strong defense, and a prospect pool abused where picks were dealt away like candy often to correct self inflicted mistakes..

BT has inherited this problem so the results remain the same until he has time to address and fix them. IMHO

Insanity is the definition of doing the same mistakes over and over and expecting different results.
Did you make up that definition of insanity?

Yeah I'm ok with it.

I like it a lot better than trading for a $4M goalie who's unplayable. You gotta understand the horrible standard we're all coming from here - the Reaves signing is peanuts compared to some of the insanely dumb shit Dubas did.

That’s who I wanted and wonder if we were interested?
Injured now but he and Cole have really solidified Van's back end.

Cole is UFA again this year and I would look at him next year. Pretty tough customer who is almost at 20 mins a night

Idk, I’ve only been following this team closely for a year or so and I’m not that familiar with the Dubas tenure. But I find it hard to believe Dubas made a more pointless move than the Reaves one. It’s the kind of signing that makes me think the decision making process is literally just based on Leafs Twitter

Or signing one, 3.8x3 I think it was

Is this the same thread that was crying over Lafferty?

Even while over achieving, Mr. Lafferty has a 5v5 line of 44% CF, 44% xGF, 46% SCF and 38% HDCF.

Lafferty is back to a 16-20 point pace (current trend) while Leafs are trending back towards their usual > 60% points percentage. The world is normalizing.

Lots of crickets coming from that crowd, no? I mean, when you're fixated on Lafferty versus Reaves, that's a sign you're running on fumes. That's a "nobody cares" matchup. There is negligible gain from Lafferty being better than Reaves.

Im sure he is having sleepless nights over the Nylander contract, the price has gone up since the summer. Nylander would have signed 10 million x 8 years in the summer. I doubt he would sign that now.

How about signing UFA Petr Mrazek to a 3 year deal at $3.8 mil AAV per and then getting 20 games out of him and then dealing away Leafs 1st round pick to unload his contract?

How about signing UFA Nick Ritchie to a 2 year deal at $2.5 mil AAV and then after not even completing the 1st year deal him as salary dump to Arizona? .. The Toronto Maple Leafs will send a 2025 second-round pick to the Arizona Coyotes to complete last February's trade that sent forward Nick Ritchie to Arizona.

What about protecting Justin Holl in the expansion draft after just trading pick and prospect to Pittsburgh for Jared McCann and then losing him to Seattle in expansion draft. McCann going on to score 40 goals last year and lead Settle in scoring and then on to the playoffs in their 2nd year in existence?

What about trading for smurf Denis Malgin who is now playing in the Swiss league for Mason Marchment who over the past 2 1/2 seasons put up 33 goals 52 assists 85 points & 163 pims?

How about trading away 1st round pick + 2 X 4th for Nick Foligno at the TD and getting 7 regular season games and 4 playoff games recording 1 assist in 1st round loss?

How bout trading Kadri for Kerfoot, dealing away 2 X future 2nd round pick + 3rd for 38 pending UFA Giordano the oldest skater in the game now, How about 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks for Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari to get 11 playoff games? etc etc etc

Reminder this was clueless Dubas last 2022 offseason moves.

Traded for disaster Matt Murray (2 years @ $4.67 mil)
&
Ilya Samsonov (1 Year, $1.8 Million AAV)
Jordie Benn (1 Year, $750,000 AAV)

Denis Malgin (1 Year, $750,000 AAV)
Calle Jarnkrok (4 Years, $2.1 Million AAV)
& PTO signing Zach Aston-Reese (1 Year, $840,000 AAV)

I see 0 bad signings for 2 for Treliving...

The difference in the offseasons is one GM had a lot of cap to work with.

We have 5 million in wasted cap, I'd figure you'd be freaking since you stress about cap space so much.

He also hade a short amount of time to get alot of crap done.
Reeves can be barried -200 thousand in cap.

He wanted to sign Schenn then Dumba. Schenn wanted to much same as Dumba.
Dumba then drpped his demands but it was to late
GMs also make 1 mistake in FA season
Dubas didn't leave treliving much to work with on D.

Love Bertuzzi and Domi

With the Forward prospect in the system and on the I hope ends constantly turning over the roster.

Defense a couple of UFAs next offseason and now we have to build up the prospect in the system . Hope we can uncover a Cowen type of puck on D

Our defensive play was never an issue until we brought in 4 FAs who can't defend...

I have no clue why everyone thinks we had a terrible D before this season.

Trading Sandin for garbage > signing Reaves

That trade is actually looking quite good.

The pick we got from that trade was used to select Easton Cowan who is absolutely torching the OHL (highest ppg) and plays a 200ft game.

Sandin has 0 goals and 4 assists while still almost never starting in the defensive zone.

Sandin on a championship team is a bottom pairing D who needs to be sheltered and can play on your powerplay if needed.

So you are complaining about Beniot and Lagesson they were signed as depth pieces on the marlies.

Thank good we did sing the with McCabe ljiligren and Tmmins going down.

We dud not have a good enough d to start the season

Brodie had a shaky playoffs
Gio was run down against Florida
Ljiligren didn't look good after the TDL last yr
McCabe was also not that great against Florida.

Klingberg I hope with rest between games he will look like the last game he played

Im sure he is having sleepless nights over the Nylander contract, the price has gone up since the summer. Nylander would have signed 10 million x 8 years in the summer. I doubt he would sign that now.
Would he have though? Does anyone even know what’s been talked about? If I was Willy, I would be bending them over a barrel. Watching Marner make that much more than him for the past 5 years has to sting a little
