Brad Richards Part III: The Buy-Out!

Richards is in no way better than Brassard anymore.

that is true..... i also dont think Richards is better than Lindberg at this point with Lindberg not even playing an NHL game.. Lindberg played well in a good SEL league. ill be shocked if he goes to the AHL for more than half of the season.

Richard's contract was signed before the new CBA where back diving contracts are now penalized. If Richards retires before the age of 40 when his contract runs out, the Rangers will pay a cap penalty. If Richards were playing at an elite level, it might be worth it to risk the cap penalty. Since he's not, it's a no brainer and he has to be bought out.

This scratch should be a prelude to a buyout this summer. Stating the obvious, but the team is down three games to none, this situation is why Richards was brought here, for his clutch play with his team's back against a wall. This could be an interesting summer if the season ends tonight. The outcome of this game has implications for both the coach and the player. A lot on the line in this game.

However, with the same people at the top, Dolan and Sather, how much could really change? Since there is no reason to believe either one will be disassociated with the New York Rangers anytime soon, it's the old saying; "The more things change, the more they stay the same."

We'll always have the last second goal vs Washington.

Hope he can somehow salvage his career somewhere didn't expect him to decline so rapidly.

Bossy was a better RW than Jagr and scored 50+ goals nine years in a row and retired due to injury and won 4 Cups. Look at his stats. He's probably the best RW to ever play the game and this is coming from a Rangers fan. Jagr was great in Pittsburgh and had one great (NYR) post-Pittsburgh year. And, no sniffs of the Cup without Lemiuex. No Ray Borque? Really? Nah.

The problem that will forever surround the Bossy argument is that his sample is only 9 years in a players prime. Is Bossy a better goal scorer than a guy like Gartner? During those 9 years, yeah but does Bossy stay as good as late into his career? He obviously didn't due to injury so we can't say what he would have been.

Likewise put a guy like Jagr or Selanne for that matter, in Bossy's generation and their statistics might be significantly better. I think all we can say is that Bossy, Jagr, Selanne, Gartner, etc. are all Hall of Fame material and would have been an elite player in any generation.

Bye bye.

You play every game, not to mention an elimination game, providing and icing the team with the best chance to win. Do you think having Newbury, over Richards in the line up, gives us the best chance to win? :help:
Yes Richie is abysmal, but is he worse than having Newbury on the ice for 4 minutes a game?

By having Richards not in the lineup means he won't be on the PP which is addition by subtraction. And lets be honest here, he wasn't exactly doing much of anything on the fourth line. He isn't physical, doesn't win board battles, doesn't check hard, play defense all that well...

What was he doing that he should be getting a roster spot over someone that would be doing those things?

Personally, I don't want to see him being bought out this off season. I feel he can bounce back; a player like him can go from a #1C to sucking **** the next season. Give him next season, then buy him out.
Baseball and football try to come back from crappy seasons all the time
Most fail, maybe it's time to retire or say yes I am injured and can't play anymore.
Buy him out and let him live a good life outside of hockey or maybe even a coach somewhere

0 Sympathy. He doesn't deserve that A

You could probably assume that he got a letter, at least in part for how he carries himself in the locker room, at training and in mentoring the younger guys. Without being privy to that info not really sure how you can say he doesn't deserve it

Brassard is best suited for 3rd line He just looks like a 2nd line center now bc of Brad Richards.

I know that's what CBJ fans and people who knew very little about Brassard outside of his stat line when the trade happened want you to believe, but Brassard at the top of his game is perfectly suited for 2nd line duty.

If he gets bought out, it's pretty embarrassing to know that the 3 compliance buyouts from the latest CBA all stem from Sather issued contracts.

If that isn't grounds for losing a GM job, I don't know what is.

I agree completely. I don't know what it is about Sather that Dolan loves, maybe he has a thing for literally giving away tens of millions of dollars for nothing in return. I know if I was the one who had to constantly cut these checks and constantly bail out Sather, no matter HOW much money I had I would get sick and tired of it and give sather the boot.

Glen must have something on Dolan.

I will miss his blind drop passes (which usually turns into odd man rushes for the other team). Good riddance.
