Brad Richards Part III: The Buy-Out!

Agreed. That's it. They have two options.

There is a risk/reward scenario with buying him out next year. I am not 100% risk averse, but I would label myself as substantially risk averse. Buying him out this season, with the drastic decline in play we have seen, is the course that I feel the Rangers should take. They may well feel differently, but I can't see how.

Exactly how I see this. Keeping in mind the money needed to sign the RFA's--it would be easier for us to be cap compliant with Richards gone.

Apart from that--sitting him now has got to be a major blow for him--these are things that sometimes cause a lot of bitterness. It's the kind of thing that often leads to a parting of the ways. Absolutely agree with Torts decision though--Richards play has not been cutting it at all. It argues that one or the other is going to be gone by next training camp.

I don't understand why people post crap like this. He was very, very solid last year and provided quite a bit to our team. Even this year when his play fell off he still put up points and was one of the main reasons we ended up in the playoffs.

He's been really bad in the playoffs and during a fair amount of the regular season. But so little? That's just silly.

Exactly...I think he tied his career high in goals last year. Yes, his assists were down, but, that had more to do with Tortorella not putting him with Gaborik until March. He was an important factor on last year's team.

Are you sure about that?

I could've sworn I saw an article that explicitly stated one in the 2013 offseason, 1 in the 2014 offseason.

During the Ordinary Course “Buy-Out†periods following the 2012/13 season and 2013/14 season, in addition to any other Ordinary Course “Buy-Outs†a Club may elect to effectuate pursuant to Paragraph 13 of the SPC, Clubs may elect to terminate and “buy-out†the already existing SPCs of up to two (2) additional Players (in the aggregate over the two (2) years) on a Compliance basis (a “Compliance Buy-Outâ€).

Have a strong feeling Richards will be in the line up tomorrow.

He got his wake up call..

He looked like he needed more than a wake up call. I'd rather have a useful fourth line than gamble the season for a guy who has already let the team down at almost every chance he's gotten this season.

A wake up call can reverse a lack of effort, not age and declining skill. This was Torts finally realizing Richards is a shadow of the player that won him the Cup.

Richards skated with the extra players/injured players before the rest of the Rangers skated. Richards is not playing tomorrow. Its not about sending a message. Is it a reading comprehension issue or a lack of knowledge? Torts is not sending Richards a message. Richards is not an effective player so the Rangers made him a healthy scratch.

The most puzzling thing about Richards is his decision-making which has been absolutely terrible. I really don't think it's a lack of effort. He's making awful positioning decisions a flat out out terrible passing decisions. That's the part I really can't put my finger on. I get legs fading as one gets older, but it's downright puzzling why he's making the mistakes that he is.

LOL....he certainly has made some good decisions at the financial level...must have had a good economics teacher somewhere along the line . We buy him out...and he makes another 20-25 Million elsewhere before he is done . Over 70 Million for 7 seasons...quite impressive .
It is hard to believe he managed to squeeze all that up front money out of Sather...Richards has always been in the right spot at the right time contract wise . Maybe he has his wallet under his hockey pants...slowing him down LOL !

The best part about this is they didn't even have to photoshop Zucc.

But Kris Newbury is less of an effective player than Brad Richards is.
