Brad Richards Part II

I think at this point there really is no option but to buy him out this summer. What exactly would be the point of keeping him around for another year to see if he bounces back? He knows he's going to be bought out at some point, what is his incentive to even perform at all next season? PLay for a new contract with another team? Well, we already saw that Redden got a contract and he was playing in the minors, so I don't really think he needs to prove anything next season. He would be the ultimate lame duck player, and it would hurt the team more than anything he can do to help it.

He has to go this summer.

But I'll put my money where my mouth is. I'll pull some tape from Richards this season. I'll find a clip or two of him skating full out (albeit will need quite a bit of tape for that) and I'll time his full speed from red line to red line. I'll be happy to meet you at a NYC rink and time you. Beat it, lunch and pinot are on me.

Haha, I would gladly do this if we could make it happen. :yo:

I want him gone, but there is a part of me that is curious to see what he would be like IF he spent an entire summer with a personal trainer and taking his fitness to levels never seen.

If he came to camp in ridiculous shape, and was confident again, he COULD be a completely different player. I think if he didn't perform after that then it would be painfully obvious he needs to be amnestied next summer.

I guess because John Scott 'is an NHL player' I wouldn't be able to skate circles around him either.

Brad Richards is NOT a great skater. Plenty of hockey players know this.

Carl Hagelin on the other hand, IS a great skater.

You don't have to play in the NHL to be an elite skater by any means. Ever been to any competitive high school/D1, D2 college/travel team games?

Plenty of talent everywhere out there, and in recreational competitive leagues who travel around as well. I see it on a weekly basis.
You don't have to be an elite skater, but even the bad skaters in the NHL are great. Just because you can see a relative difference between NHL players does not mean you can underestimate the talent level of them in general.

I have a buddy who played some minor league hockey and now he plays in rec leagues. He played on a team with Bruce Driver a few years ago and said that the guy- when he wanted to - literally looked like Mario Lemiuex out there. These are pretty competetive leagues as well, they're not scrums.

So the idea that there's a ton of people that can skate circles around some of these guys is simply false.

Richards is scratched tonight! The fact that he Torts can not put him on the powerplay will effectively make this the best playoff game Richards will play this season. Addition by subtraction.

I'm still very willing to see Brad Richards play in NY, sans John Tortorella. I feel that way about many of our forwards.

Makes the pathetic PP better

Hopefully the Brad Richards suckfest has taught the FO a lesson. It probably hasn't and we will have Redden after Gomez after Richards esq deals as long as Sather is our GM, but maybe this time they learned.

Regardless if he gets bought out this year or not, good on Torts (haven't said that much this postseason) for doing the right thing for both the team and the player.

Guy has looked like ******* so it's addition by subtraction, and he clearly isn't all there so (hopefully) he can clear his head a bit.

Sucks he didn't work out in NY. I was so excited when we signed him. We should look to develop players and sign role players instead of throwing our money away.

Best of luck elsewhere Brad.

The NHL got the changes they wanted in the CBA regarding long term contracts. We discussed them last summer. The Rangers have no option but the compliance buyout Richards. You look at his level of play. You look at the cap recapture in the CBA. No choice. No turning back now. Richards is a healthy scratch for a playoff game. That says it all for his future here.

I don't know that this is his last game as a NYR. Some of you are reading more into this than there is, I think.

a guy you signed to be the top line center getting worse and wose as the years roll on. getting played 8-10 minutes a game as the team if getting swept gets healthy scratched for a do or die game?

I think we are reading things just fine.

the tea leaves here do not lie.

he's a goner.
