The MOU says the compliance buyouts follow paragraph 13 of the SPC. If you look at paragraph 13,twice the term.

Its twice the term because the compliance buyout counts against the players share. In the previous CBA,the compliance buyouts didn't count against any share so it was over the remaining term. The NHL didn't want any money outside the system in this CBA.

What did Richie Rich get for his first season and 46 games this year ? I know it was a lot...and now add in 24 Million to can him...I would think that would almost be enough to get any GM fired .

Would Dolan actually spend 39mil+ on a buyout single season. :shakehead. I'm not even sure he spent that much with his beloved Knicks (Marbury).

Why not? Hes going to have to pay him that salary if he plays or bought out. At least this way we have cap room and can improve the team.

I don't think I've ever been as angry at a Rangers player as I am at Richards. Not Gomez. Not Redden. Not Malik. Nedved. None.

Richards was brought here to be a 1st liner. Put up 70+ pts. Now he's anchoring our 4th line. We got screwed out of a 1st line player. Can you imagine where we'd be if he performed like a 1st liner?

like Richards knew he was gonna have a rapid break down :help: it wasnt his fault he was offered a lot of money and that him and his agent also asked for alot of cash... he should have played during the lockout. what the hell was he doing during the lockout being lazy :help::laugh: maybe if he stayed in shape he wouldnt have been on a rapid decline. im sure that has something to do with it..

Excuse me for expecting a first liner to play like a first liner. Guess how I know you've been a Rangers fan for a long time.

yea its where careers usually die unless your a great like Messier or Gretzky..

We have to buy out Richards...he is useless and is actually hurting the team since we can use his cap hit elsewhere.

One player I like is Michael Ryder. He should not cost too much and he is great on the PP, which is a big weakness of NYR. Ryder had 17 of his 35 points this season on the PP! He also has 3 seasons with 30 or more goals. I would like to see him on a line with Brassard and Nash...thus giving that line another scorer so that teams don't just zero in on Nash and if they do, Ryder will get open. Ryder can play RW or LW so thats nice.

There are other options...like Iginla, but I don't think we should spend too much on old guys (see Richards!)

And if he gets hurt and the Rangers are unable to amnesty him? Then what?

THAT would be absolutely devastating to this franchise.

Actually, you can make an argument that Richards should not even be playing now, for the same reason. The risk of him getting hurt in this round, and screwing up our cap situation for the next seven years, is not worth what little we are getting out of him on the ice right now.

I am going to go out on a limb and say the Rangers should sign Jarome Iginla at the end of this season with Richards' money. Yes he is 35+. Yes he is another RWer. The guy is one of the best leaders in the NHL and can still score 30 goals. Give him a 3 year deal and let him be the new Shanahan.

No thanks.

1 year deal, maybe. You just hit the Richards nail on the head, and now want to give 3 years to a 35+ guy on the decline? Sheesh.

I wouldn't give Iginla 7 million though. Maybe around 4.5-5. If that doesn't work out, then let him go. He would help the PP and add some veteran presence to the locker room. Heart and Soul warrior. He would be like the new Shanahan. And the Rangers now have (2) centers who can get him the puck in Brassard and Stepan.

Why do we need a "new" Shanahan. What did the old Shanahan win here?

So he'll go from Crosby and Malkin to Stepan and Brassard. Downgrade??
