I'd be OK with forward lines that look like that. Need a winger for the Brassard/Zuccarello line. DZ for that winger. If Richards bounces back, the team will be pretty damn good next season, IMO. Just have to hope and plead to the hockey gods that Richards doesn't get hurt and actually does bounce back.

The Rangers got abused by a poor ES Caps team at ES in the playoffs. That doesn't aspire much confidence in me for the core of this team.

Alright Slats, forget about Clowe or anyone else. You no longer have the room.

Yea he is going to make trades now which is actually better than signing UFA's when it comes to Sather

Richards, Stepan, Brassard,Boyle
Nash, Zuccarello, Hagelin, Powe, Pyatt
Callahan, Kreider, Dorsett, Asham, Haley

all one way deals. Going to be interesting. I agree DZ could be dealt too or a balzy Staal deal to Carolina. Too many LD , they could use a RD

But if he bounces back the Rangers might just keep him and long term that's even worse.

The good news is he can still potentially be bought out next summer. The bad news is an injury can really wreck the team. Too much risk without much reward.

I said it before: unless you need the cap space in the summer, keeping Richards around for next season is the smart move. He can only increase his value and the risk of a season-ending injury is small. That doesn't mean it won't happen but the odds are against it.

I think Richards to LW is the best option as this point, I'd like to see Stepan, Brassard, Boyle, and Lindberg down the center but AV may get one of his guys to be a 4th line center. Moving a player on the decline from center to winger here has been quite popular and more successful than we think
Prospal
Lindros
Straka
Rucchin
And that's just off the top of my head, we will see but Richards is not a 3rd line center.

He will be the 2 or #1c depending on camp.. He will out perform BRassard who I feel is more suited for a defensive line, unless they put Stepan there (he'd still get a hell of alot of ice time)

That's ok though, we beat them because Lundqvist stood on his head. So we can just go in with the same forward group and hope Lundqvist is even better.....if that's even possible

You got that right. Dolan doesn't want to eat this contract. If he has a good year he's probably not going anywhere regardless of how much sense a buyout makes.

id be surprised if dolan even knew how much money was left on the contract. he let marbury sit when marbury was making around 30m a season. there shudnt be too much money on richards contract after this season.

I know bro, I mean how can that scrub improve his Vezina nominee regular season totals from .926 save percentage to only a .934 sv % in the playoffs, when the team needs the best player to elevate his play at his highest level. Clearly, he should've gotten a shutout each game to satisfy Rangers fans.

Ive watched hockey my entire life.

I play hockey.

Brad Richards looked more or less exactly the same last year as he has in all the years prior.

What !? You can't be for real with this.

AV gets the same team as last year. Good luck.

Thats the one thing I actually enjoy about this.

Maybe it'll be a wakeup call to the folks who thought the coach was the major hurdle.

You guys are really pushing it now.

I can understand because I was sayng the same things about Renney to Torts, but even I accepted it and rooted for the team to win. I didn't hammer Torts when the team didn't do much under him the remainder of that mid season as a replacement.

I get down and blue on many areas of this organization, it just seems like you really rather prove the point then see the team have any success. I try not to take it that far. Look how much i've improved with the MCI pick !

Oh goodie. We get to watch another year of him getting spoonfed premium icetime he doesn't deserve while constantly making costly turnovers and getting beaten to and knocked off pucks. Plus, we have the added bonus that he probably keeps Lindberg from getting a legit shot out of camp this year.

I hope that's not the case but you know they will have him on a longer leash than he deserves.

Brad Richards is on the decline, and his legs were complete mush last season. That, and his mental weakness that caused him to make so many costly, dumb mistakes. I don't understand why more people don't see how bad he really was.

I don't understand it either. I've been saying for months they were gonna give Torts and Richards the benefit of the doubt. Once Torts was tossed I was sure Richards was next. Maybe the difference was the players - they give the player the pass but not the coach. Sounds right.

This would NEVER HAVE HAPPENED IF MESSIER WAS STILL HERE!!!!!!

 Nice.

I wouldn't care if the entire team walked the next day after we won a Cup.

The ENTIRE team ?

You would care, come on now.

Sather not ready to concede that this signing is a mistake, I guess. Or maybe Dolan said enough is enough with the buyouts.

Either way, LOL. I will be rooting for Richards to bounce back and stay healthy. He should be bought out next summer regardless, but if they didn't buy him out now, who knows if they will next summer? This organization never fails to disappoint/surprise.

Good point about Dolan.

Either way, it is a LOL, business as usual at Kramerica Industries.

I'm happy that he's back for the sole reason that all of you said he had zero chance of coming back.

Constant negativity about every player here

He absolutely deserved the criticism.

Constantly negative? Did you miss EVERY 'player appreciation' thread? Pretty much every player had one, EXCEPT Brad Richards.

The decision not to buyout Richards reeks of Dolan as it seemed everyone else wanted him gone. To say I'm shocked wouldn't be correct as this franchise has a history of giving out bad contracts to over the hill players. Now 2 things could be happening:

1) Sather could be working on trading Richards, which would not shock me as we know how many teams were interested in acquiring him when he was a free agent

2) AV plans to use him as a winger to mask his deficiencies as I was hoping we would look like this down the center next season Stepan, Brassard, Boyle, Lindberg. With less pressure and responsibilities in the defensive zone he could focus on offense, ie Eric Lindros when he was moved to wing as a Ranger. Now will Richards be successful, who knows, but his days as a top 6 center are over. He was signed to play center with Gaborik, Gabby is gone and Richards should be too.

Please be a trade ;)

Ugh, that seems like forever.

What does being young have to do with anything? I'm young, and I think saying that 6 years of playoffs with no cup is better than 1 cup and then no playoffs for six years is asinine.

That would be horrible, no team has ever done that though, so....

BTW, Torts just said on NHL Live that Brad Richards has to 'change his environment'. So basically saying Richards is caught up in the gangsta lifestyle. Shame....

Question, What if a player has a six year deal, retires in 2 years, the team is on hook for the remaining 4 years. Can you trade the contract to a team who needs to reach the cap floor?

Great. A lame duck center that knows he'll be bought out next summer will take up dead space on the roster while Rangers nation holds their breath for him not to get injured.

Good job, Glennie, even dumber than I thought.

How many over the hill players have turned it around here? Jagr is the exception, because everyone else Lindros, Rucchin, Prospal, Maclean,Gomez, Drury, etc usually have 1 good season and then become useless in Rangers uniforms. Richards looked like a shell this year, even if he gets in great shape I don't think he can handle both ends like he used to, moving him to play wing and giving him less minutes is the best option if they are going to keep him. I'm afraid Richards will be the team whipping boy this year and possibly for much longer.

I'm getting visions of opening night next season at MSG when Richards name is called and there's collective silence. He better show up or he's going to take a lot of heat. At least some of that should go to Sather and/or Dolan.

I doubt it. I think that's the point of the cap recapture penalty.

I don't think Richards "knowing that he'll be bought out" is really a bad thing for his own sake...hopefully, it pushes him to play well in the hopes he can add even more money to his bank account next summer.

I'm not an optmist, I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist. This is reality. I don't think the current team is good enough to win it all unless one of the kids really steps up his game. I'm not rooting against AV either. In fact, I'll probably be the guy defending his ass if the team fails to meet unrealistic expectations once again.

Yeah but that was before this new CBA right out of a ****ing cartoon.

I believe that trade occurred right before the season under the current CBA

Soooooo we're one player away from a Cup?

I don't think you really 'know' what reality of the team is right now. None of us do, yet you and BRB keep saying 'you wait and see!'.

Okay, wait and see, thanks guys....

I think they need more size and more depth. You can fix some of that with 6.6 million dollars. Instead we'll go into the season with basically the same team that couldn't get past Boston.
