Do you realize that it doesn't matter how well he plays?

Then maybe if he totally sucks they just send him to Hartford like they did Redden. Is that even an option?

Maybe they are thinking one of Miller or Lindberg would be ready to step in if need be.

Heard that too, absolutely ridiculous. Said he was really good during regular season especially the last 12 games. Yeah, it was ALL Brad

Richards went 5g 7a over the last 12 games. Yeah, the team played great, but Richards was part of that a scored at a ppg. Saying Richards played well in that (very small) stretch doesn't seem wrong

Yeah well that Cup was worth all those crappy years and since I experienced both you'll have to trust me.

That's a good point, because the only way they can justify this decision is by winning the cup. Anything less and it's just another bad idea in a long string of bad ideas.

Put Richards on left wing. The Kings had plans to put Richards on the left side when they tried to sign him. They had Kopitar and had just added Mike Richards.

No. For one, he has an NMC, so he could block that move. And two, with the new CBA, we can only bury up to 925k per contract. So Richard's would still count almost 6 mil against the cap even if we could send him down.

He also got some the luckiest bounces and most meaningless points I've ever seen.

I think this is a pretty terrible decision, but as I thought about it over the last few days where it kinda became obvious this was coming, I see where the Rangers are coming from.

If, and it's a pretty big if, Richards gets hurt and can't be bought out, we're looking at a Cap recapture risk. Anyone want to take a stab at what the Cap is going to be when we get to the point that Richards would retire? $80m? $85m? $90m??? I would not at all be surprised to see those numbers become reality. $5m on a $85m Cap? From the Rangers point-of-view, that's worth the risk in seeing if he can turn it around.

I don't agree with the decision, but it makes a certain amount of sense.

(And I'd be surprised if this hadn't been brought up already, but I'm not reading through 11 pages, of what I'm assuming is mostly whining, to see if it has)

so we're back to judging points now? Richards was pretty **** for the whole season, but he also got a lot of unlucky bounces. Like most things it evened out a bit.

4th on the team in points, there's no one better currently on the roster to take his spot and I'm not sure there's one in free agency. For 1 more year the level of angst is disproportionate to the effect on the team

Last 12 games, after the trades, Nash had 12 points, Stepan had 17, Brassard had 12. The team gained some depth, Brad's minutes decreased as others took over.

In those 12 games Richards was scoreless in almost half of them.

Do a lot of you even care about the cup or no?

Richards is going to have a bounce back year and make this team a lot better then if he wasnt on it. Did you want Boyle on the second line or something?

I generally don't do that, but it really is the truth. The hat trick in Buffalo was probably the worst, ugliest hat trick I've ever seen. It still counts, but it's not sustainable/likely to ever happen again.

Points matter to an extent, but with Richards, he was fart worse than his point totals would have indicated. When plays were put on his line, they'd start to struggle. Nash didn't take off until he was taken off Richards' line and out with Stepan.

I agree with you, but i also question whether he'll ever be that 'snakebit' for so long again. I'm still having trouble finding a better 1 year option

Good points, definitely agree, besides the hatty, you can't hide the fact most of those points were against NJ, Car, Fla, teams that were done by the time we played them.

Again, when you think back to those last 12 games Richards is secondary to what was going on. I was to the point where it was just good that he wasn't looking totally useless like the bulk of the season.

2014 Stanley Cup?

Just hope that a real training camp and preseason can whip ol' Richie in to shape.

Any point to playing him at wing?

Question, What if a player has a six year deal, retires in 2 years, the team is on hook for the remaining 4 years. Can you trade the contract to a team who needs to reach the cap floor?

No, we are not on the hook for the remaining four.

If I have inderstood it right, if BR has made on avg 12m over three years and then retires with 4 y left, while his cap hit has been 6.8m, we are on the hook of 12 - 6.8 x 3 / 4 = 3.9m per year for 4 years.

They might have tweaked it some, but it's a recapturing rule, not a +35 rule. Ie, if you had a smaller cap hit than the sum you paid out, it comes back at your cap.

What? I thought Brassard and Stepan effectively surpassed him?

Is this confirmed? Strap on your seat belts fellas, this season will dictate our ability to compete from about 2016-20. Someone find me an Olivia Munn look-a-like, quick. Make that 2, one for me and the wife and one for Richie.

Richards-Brassard-Zuccarello

Looking forward to seeing that line! NOT
Oooh, this could be a game.
