It should have been more I agree but the Bruins weren’t really dealing with a position of strength. Marchand likely wasn’t coming back until the playoffs and the Bruins aren’t making the playoffs. He was really only beneficial to teams like Florida.
I would have been completely happy with keeping him for nothing. A 2nd is such a pitiful return for such a symbolic trade...

the player,
the end of an era,
and to a bitter rival.

It just makes me sick.

If there’s a legitimate path to it becoming a 1st, I am all for it. If it is something stupid like they have to win the Cup or he has to resign, then it was meh.

Trust me: we’ll still be hurting for high-end talent in the system in 3 years.

Picks conditions can’t be about the player resigning anymore.
Don’t know why they took that out of the CBA.

I see it this way, the return is low but perhaps he said "I will only go to Florida" and the front office knows he won't be back for the regular season so they took the deal to do a solid for Marchand. If he was really shooting for a four year deal I don't blame the FO for making the trade. His best days are behind him and the better choice would be for him to hang up the skates after this season. I will always love Brad as a Bruin and I wish him the best but the FO did the right thing by cleaning house today and setting the foundation for a complete rebuild. They now have extra spending money for the off season, additional draft capital and some interesting young assets with potential. Always a Bruins fan and that continues after today!

I guess a 2nd (cond. 1st) is all the return is.
Absolutely brutal.

Sweeney did great on the other deals but this Marchand return is completely sours the whole day. Trading away one of the franchise's greats for a pathetic return, and to one of your top 2 rivals.

He’s hurt and unlikely to play for weeks.

He's UFA in July and is likely to come back here.

Cant imagine getting more.

If any return is underwhelming its the Carlo return, RD are hard to find, he's signed for 2 more years at a great price. He's exactly what they need, stay at home D, and he will play in the same division as us, we should have held out for more.

I'm happier with the 1st and top C prospect rather than watch Bambi get pushed around for 2 more years

The returns for both these deals were not worth the heartbreak. I would have been fine with either going for the right deals, but Christ, these were not it. Marchand should have been a player, a 1st and a prospect. Carlo should have been MORE.
