Prospect Info: Brad Lambert, 30th Overall, 2022 NHL Draft

My main hope is if Lambert does seem to hit his potential he doesn't get squandered on the third/fourth line. I remember having a lot of hype for Nic Petan, when it seemed like we got a real steal of a gem and that unfortunately didn't work out. It's fun to have young players with hype though :D

We're already hoping he can play top six C/RW. Either Lambert or Perfetti centering the second line would be a great solution to that 2C problem in the future. Wheeler on the other hand, has one more season after this under contract with the Jets and who knows what's in the cards for him? Probably not top six minutes by the time Lambert is ready to make the squad full time.

NHL scouts were right about lambert, you can skate circles all you want like he does, but you’re not going to accomplish anything when you Iq and complete are that poor

Making any conclusions either way positive or negative this early may be a bit disingenuous. But then again, this forum hyped him behind belief merely weeks upon being selected.

The poster was correct though. Lambert has patterned his game after Yakupov, with inexplicably less hockey sense than Yak. Lambert has tunnel vision when he plays and doesn't think the game. He just skates as fast as he can when he has the puck with no plan.

The narrative that Lambert is "too good" for junior hockey is looking a bit optimistic in hindsight, the kid seems like he could've used a full year of junior hockey. Not everyone can jump into the AHL like Perfetti and have immediate successs

The question becomes where does a player like this develop best. In the AHL where there is more structure and role expectations, or in junior against lesser competition where he can overwhelm with skill, and vision develops along with that.

In beer league, where his talents are maximized.

That’s fair to say but this opinion has been formed from 3 juniors and 1 u18s - enough of a sample size

The guy just seems like he does t have conviction in what he’s doing. Could be an IQ thing, ya never know

You may be right.

I just think labelling any player bust/ disappointment, or top 6 fwd/ Ehlers (or better) a few months upon being drafted is way too early

Guy barely has been in an nhl system. Either way just to early imo but of course he could very well bust.

The folks who watched him in Europe do have a better grasp on him and his talent tho and were posting about some expected struggles. It seems like so far he's play has been leaning that way, but still young enough to turn it around.

Personally I disliked the pick as I am not a fan of Lambert’s IQ or compete level. Now I’ll root for him to succeed, but I won’t put him on a pedestal until he earns it.

I was hoping for one of the following defensemen with that pick

Chesley, Casey, Luneau, Warren, Nelson or Hutson.

I wanted Hutson so badly to be a Jet’s prospect.

agreed. the prospect over-hype is typical around these boards. so far, seems like lambert hasn't done much upon being drafted, but it's only been a few months. some prospects have a slow start, heck some years before they amount to something, & sometimes it happens in a different team/system. labeling him some sort of steal or bust this early is disingenuous

I am okay with him being a swing for the fences with a high ceiling. People wanted the Jets to take Isaac Howard. He has 1 goal and 5 assist in 16 NCAA games. He has a -12 rating if that means anything which is worst on the team.
I wanted Del Bel Belluz just for the jersey...

Edit: maybe we should pick based on cool names... he's doing great in the O

1 pt in the WJ’s only.

I know it’s early, but he has bust written all over him. He should’ve been killin it.

His usage wasn't that of a player that was going to put up a ton of points. Finland's coaches seemed reluctant to put him out 5 on 5 and he was playing net front/slot on PP2 on a team that didn't seem like they even wanted to put the puck to the middle of the ice. Their coaching was far too risk averse for such a short tournament in my opinion.

And not to make too many excuses because I thought his play away from the puck left a lot to be desired as well. There were times where his greed for the puck had him getting into his teammates lanes and disrupting Finland's transition game. Just generally trying too hard to be everywhere and doing everything himself and causing completely unnecessary chaos.
It's horribly cliché but I think he just needs to simplify his game and let other guys create offense and carry the puck too. He should be using his best asset in his skating to create space for other guys on the ice like Ehlers does when he doesn't have the puck.
