If you make a claim like "1st intermission ratings plummeted since he left" you can't then just assume it's true until someone proves that you're wrong. It's on you to show that the ratings fell dramatically.

I mentioned it already, if someone can find the ratings for the 1st intermission and compare them then I would like to see them myself. However, it is quite obvious they would not be as high. Cherry is a legendary hockey personality and it is replaced with just dry analysis on the Hot Stove. This is one of those things where it is obvious people aren't watching it like before. But, I would still like to see the ratings.
TV ratings are not really a good gauge of anything anymore.

I cut the cord long ago and just find alternative free ways to watch the games lol.

Yes. Both you and Bear stated that you go to a lot of hockey games and you both were dumbfounded when I told you about the modern reactions (basically the same as other decades) fans have to fights.

Like I said..................this is a really weird thread.
...........that's what you think? That we're "dumbfounded about the modern reactions fans have to fights"?

You're serious? This is what you got from the last 4 pages? You're not trolling or being facetious? You really think that's what people are trying to tell you?

Phil.... I just don't know what to say to you anymore. I don't think anyone here does. Go back and read where I started criticising your moral bankruptcy for hoping to see junior hockey players fight. Start there and try to follow the conversation this time, because you outright failed in that regard. Completely and utterly.

I mean for f***s sake, I outright acknowledged that there are fans that love fighting so much they even love to see teenagers do it - and that they're sick! And pages later, you think that I am saying "people don't like fighting".

Seriously, how could you have possibly come to that conclusion??? I'm not saying that. No one is saying that. You've had your share of conversations that went like this going back over a decade, but this one takes the cake.

Remember, Don Cherry was rated 7th most "Greatest Canadian" back in 2005. Do you remember that? Even ahead of Wayne Gretzky. Take that list for what it is, but even the CBC had to acknowledge him. So yes, Cherry had some enemies, but he had a ton of fans. A lot.

EVEN the CBC, who employed him and played the useful idiot to him for more than 30 years had to acknowledge him. EVEN the CBC! Good lord.

In other words, you can't counter the argument.

In your world view, I suppose. Must be nice to live there.

Since you're choosing to not pay attention, I'll sum things up as succinctly as possible: you're not trying, so there's no point in anyone else trying.

Anyone who engages you in a serious fashion knows (or should know) what they're in for.

Who tried to fire him for 39 years. You really think the CBC and Don Cherry had anything in common? Or is this one of those times I have to spoonfeed someone again? If that doesn't say that they thought he was of value what else are you looking for?

It is up to you. I did my part, I proved my side and you refused to see it, nor even tried to counter it. You are allowed to not like fights Bear, you just seem dead set against this idea that you are in the minority. Fans love fights at a game, you say you go to them all of the time, you tell me.

You did not say fans don't love a fight. That is correct. I get a bunch of responses at once they can blend together. So yes, I will agree with you on that. You did not say this. Now, where I noticed with you is that you have this holier than thou attitude that just wanting to let two guys "go" at it in a scrum is some sort of barbaric behaviour. I'm just telling you this has happened in hockey forever, including today. This is what fans do. If you are on that doesn't like it, then so be it. And even in junior hockey fans do this. They aren't monsters over it like you seem to think and they didn't just show up to watch a fight. I would say with the decline in fighting that it isn't a wise financial choice to be betting on it.

Correct, and I've decided to not bother, for reasons that have been sufficiently explained to you.

I can either waste my time or not waste my time, and you respond the same either way.

Its fine Bear, you made a crazy claim a while back, tried to call me out on something that I never in a million years thought I would have to prove to you (especially on HOH boards) that fans still love fights and when I showed you that they still do you claimed to not even watch the video. Anyway....................

They literally employed him the entire time, so they didn't try to fire him very hard.

The truth is, and I won't go further on this, as it's even more OT than the Cherry discussion itself, is CBC was fine with him and the controversy he created each week because the CBC has about as much in being a properly focused public broadcaster as I had in high school chemistry.

Find my initial "crazy claim". Quote it for us both.

I liked fights when I played. I had 37 penalty minutes one season as a college goaltender (and if I wasn't such a shitty goaltender, I would have had more). Figure it out.

Well you should know the story by now that they tried right from 1980 to fire him. Ralph Mellanby stuck up for him and gave them one of those "If he goes, I go" type of thing. They kept him. They knew what he was worth.

Post #528 is a weird one.

You tried countering that seeing the reactions of fans - either through a video which you refused to acknowledge or live in person - watching a fight is quite telling as to whether or not they enjoy it. When I tried to tell you to show me how you are correct and I am incorrect you just refused. I got it, and really was going to let you off the hook for it and let it go and just sort of take it as a way that you can't argue with that.

Trace it back to the source. It's not my fault that I followed your line of reasoning for a few pages.

Firing someone when you are their employer is not something you have to try to do. You either do it, or you didn't want to do it.

Not if you make the sort of killing Cherry made. Man, here we go again with this stuff. How old are you? Do you even remember Cherry on TV? It was well known he wasn't popular with his bosses. He joked once after Rogers took over in 2014 that his shorter Coach's Corner segments were what they call "phasing" him out.

Are we doing "Phil Sr." or "Phil Jr." here?

It's all Junior. Has been for quite some time.

You are telling me there are people that can't remember the 2010s on here?

You flowed right from "they tried right from 1980 to fire him" to "people can't remember the 2010s"? It was twenty-five minutes ago. This is the reason people don't bother to track down your claims.

Are you sure this is all Phil Jr.?

You said it, actually, you mocked about it in #528 of me saying the fans still love fights. Obviously you didn't agree. Yet you didn't care when I showed you proof. Nor did you counter anything.

Post #528 is where I rightly pointed out that you're generally full of it and expect other people to do the legwork regarding evidence of same.

Cherry was on TV as recent as 2019. It was well known his bosses begrudgingly kept him on. You are serious, you have never heard the 1980 Ralph Mellanby story? It's only been told 100 times.

I've heard the Mellanby story. Ken Campbell told it around the time Cherry was let go.

Well it was told countless times before that.
