Really hope Bill Armstrong still values Perunovich. He is an easy prospect to move on from.

Perunovich + Hofer + 1st for Chychrun (Scandella for the cap) would be my best case scenario.

Agreed. After tonight's game, (which I am too angry to comment on further), I am convinced that neither Mikkola nor Perunovich are ready for top 4 duty. I am back on the "we need a top 4 LD defenseman" wagon.

I like Mikkola a lot but he just isn't ready for top4 minutes come playoff time against top competition. Ideally I wouldn't mind him at all on the bottom pairing with Peru or a shutdown pairing with Bortuzzo. With Parayko missing these last two it has shined such a light on the deficiency on the backend. Personally I am all in Chychrun. Doug needs to be on the phone with Bill asking what package of futures are needed to get it done, our window is in the next few years while we still have guys like ROR and Saad in their primes.

Saad - Thomas - Kyrou
Buchnevich - Barbashev - Tarasenko
Schenn - ROR - Perron
Brown - Bozak - Sundqvist

Chychrun - Parayko
Krug - Faulk
Mikkola - Bortuzzo

Above is a team I could see making a deep run in the playoffs.

It should have been pretty obvious without needing to actually see it in action that a team with one reliable defensive defenseman is not going to seriously compete for the Cup. I like Faulk but against the top offenses on a solid forecheck the water crests the levee and he is subsumed.

It would suck to have assembled this offense and waste it with such a poorly constructed defense. But that is what appears to be on track to happen unless Armstrong pulls off a major trade before the deadline.

I didn't have very high expectations for Perunovich as an NHL player this year after the amount of time he missed last season. But then he was very productive in the AHL and appeared to be shrugging off the missed development time. He FORCED Armstrong to make a roster move to call him up, which makes it more likely they were expecting him to stay up all season. But truth be told, Perunovich has been disappointing since being called up.

He's getting very protected zone starts. OK, fine. But he hasn't been productive. His defensive fragility has been exposed more than you'd like to see, and there hasn't been much to offset that negative. He's performing about how I'd have predicted when training camp was on, but my expectations rose after his AHL performance. I think he can still be a Krug type player, but he has some growing to do. The notion that he can contribute meaningfully to the team the next 2 seasons looks increasingly unlikely. I do still expect him to be a worthwhile NHL player...its just going to take him a bit longer. I doubt this season has enhanced his trade value.

I'm torn on him as a player. He had an incredibly good showing in the AHL and was way too dominant for that league, but like you said, he has come up and disappointed a bit after his AHL stint. I don't know how much he can improve his defense in one offseason, but he has the offensive tools to become a useful player. I might be a bit more optimistic on how quickly he can turn around his play, but I agree with you. Honestly, we are fortunate that Mikkola stepped up the way he did, otherwise we would be really screwed right now. If he could improve his outlet passing and Perunovich improve his ability to defend, then we are set up really well for the future. The problem is that we are trying to contend right now and idk that those players are going to impact the game like Petro, Parayko, and Bouw did during our cup run.

I agree with the sentiment of moving Perunovich. To me if he develops further he MIGHT become Krug-lite. We already have the real Krug locked up longterm, we dont need 2 LDs with this similar of skillsets. Now im not saying we give him away, im just stating he's a chip i wouldnt mind moving if we can trade some young quantity for a quality LD in return.

Our window is certainly open this season and the next. Army is not a guy to shy away from big deals. He's a top GM in the game and is actively looking to make this team better. The three guys I'm looking at are Chychrun, Lindholm, and Chariot. I would find it hard to believe that some combination of Scandella, Perunovich, a first round pick, and Kostin wouldn't be able to get it done.

Chariot is 100% not on any of my lists. Gross. Chychrun is someone I would like to have and I think with Bill A knowing our talent, it could be really good or bad for us. I think Lindholm would be a solid runner up, but I dont want a rental and his contract is going to be too much for the Blues to have next season. I am all in for Chychrun.I think he is exactly what we need. I dont think he is "Elite" but I think him and 55 on the top line could be stellar.

Don't think this was mentioned, but if Bill has the same reluctance with trading within the conference as Doug has, then I would say a trade is very unlikely to happen within the division.

6. Marek mentioned Anaheim, Los Angeles and St. Louis in deep on Jakob Chychrun last weekend. All of those make sense, but that contract is right in the Hurricanes’ wheelhouse. Some teams also believe Arizona prefers the Eastern Conference, if possible.

I like all of Lindholm, Chariot and Chychrun as options to bolster our D but wanted to throw out another name I haven't seen discussed.

What are everyone's thoughts on Calvin De Haan?

Being a LHD on an expiring contact for a non playoff team I think he is worth looking at. He has played 20 plus minutes a night the last handful of games for the hawks. I think he could be a solid complimentary option in the top 4 next to either Faulk or Parayko. Would a 2nd plus a later pick be enough to acquire De Haan with retention? Find another place to dump Scandella's contact?

Curious what this board thinks.

Not enough of an upgrade to be worth it, IMO. I have the same thought with Chiarot. For me, it’s Chychrun or just stay pat.
