Gibby will still find a way to put Navarro on the line up, after all, according to Gibby, he is the Jays' "best pure hitter."

To everyone saying we need to get a pitcher, here's an interesting fangraphs article on how stacking more offense to an already good lineup actually provides non-linear returns and could be even more valuable than adding an equal level pitcher.

Projections show Tulo should be equal to +1.0WAR remainder of the season -- roughly the same as what the Astros should see by adding Kazmir.

edit: posting the link helps.

How is Carrasco an Ace? Seriously he's a #4 at best. He had 1 good year and has regressed back to what he truly is.

:laugh::laugh::handclap:

Thanks for the laugh. "He regressed back to what he truly is"?:laugh: Yeah, I bet all pitchers would love to "regress" to his level.

Yes, boy did he regress.

I have and I don't care about FIP. It's a what if stat. His FIP has always been lower than his ERA except 2010 also.

The Indians are a terrible defensive team, and have been for several years. Since Carrasco came into the league in 2009 the Indians are dead ****ing last in fielding, and they are miles behind even the second worst team. It's mind boggling how bad their defense is.

http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.as...nd=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0

Put him on an even average or below average defensive team and he will pitch much closer to his FIP.

Edit: I don't think FIP is the be-all-end-all stat for pitchers either, but it uses the factors that pitchers have the most control over and eliminates defense -- in this case the worst defense in baseball by a mile over the past 6.5 years.

Well, turns out about a year later that Tulo was watching his future team play. It just happens to be the team nobody expected.

Actually, looking back at Passan's tweet, it was a year to the day.

Hoffman is tough to give up. Without his injury, he likely would have contended for the 1st OA pick.

Our offense is beyond stacked now though. I wonder if we could move an older bat like EE or Bautista for pitching help.

If we're going to trade even more prospects for a pitcher, ownership better be willing to increase payroll, because there won't be a ton of help coming up the farm.

Holy ****! Still can't believe we got Troy "mother****ing" Tulowitzki!!

Really sad about Hoffman going though. Best of luck to him. The sky's the limit for him.

WOW, what a trade by AA. We just got arguably the best ss in baseball for 2 minor leaguers. Sure Hoffman and Castro MIGHT turn out, but they might not. Tulo is the real deal, and plus im pretty sure there is another baseball draft coming up, and the year after that as wel. Plenty of chances to add more prospects, adding an all-star SS is not so easy. Well done AA.

We also got LaTroy Hawkins in the deal. So while improving significantly at SS we added another reliever thus improving our BP. Also shaving 2 M$ from the Reyes deal.

Would love to flip EE for a pitcher now.

I'd be happy with Smoak at 1B with Colabello/Bautista(when he needs a rest)/Navarro jumping in and out of the DH role.

Yea, something tells me Bautista and EE aren't going to waive their 5/10 rights now that AA has shown he's a buyer. They aren't going anywhere.

If they get any pitching help it will be at the cost of more prospects.

well, this was an interesting trade to wake up to.

I'm honestly one of mind blown! Can anyone save me the trouble of searching and tell me how many years of control we have left on tulo?

Losing Hoffman sucks but tulo is a pretty special player who isn't a 2 month rental so it's all good!

Seriously, tulo?! Wow lol.

Reyes has been my favorite player since he was with the Mets, so I will miss him (perhaps not the defensive adventures though...). Tough to lose Castro and Hoffman, but adding Tulo is insane. I know he is amazing offensively and I have seen some highlight plays from him, but how good is our LS infield now?

Love this trade.

I wonder if Votto can come via trade involving Bautista + Encarnacion.

I think a top 5 of

Travis
Donaldson
Votto
Tulowitzki
Martin

looks better than

Travis
Donaldson
Bautista
Encarnacion
Martin

Less HRs but higher avg hitting.

Fantasy aside, PLEASE re-sign Anthopoulous. I don't think the Jays organization will be able to find anyone to top him any time soon.

Wow what a trade by AA. Getting possibly the best SS in the game is truly amazing. All while upgrading the bullpen as well.
AA deals really come out of left field.
I will miss Reyes as despite his obvious flaws, he is still a good player when healthy and good personallity as well.
Hoffman I dont like giving up, but you had to think we would likely have to give him up if Troy was coming here. I think Hoffman will be a true stud but honestly we are getting a superstar SS.

Another good deal by AA. I have been saying for a while that the Jays need just a good innings eater or 2 and that should be fine. It makes even more sense with the best offense in baseball just getting better

Defensively Tulo is a pretty strong upgrade over Reyes, although like Reyes he's a great SS more because of his bat, no so much his glove. From 2013-2015 Reyes is a -7.1UZR/150 compared to Tulo being a +2.7.

This year Tulo is -7.7 compared to Reyes at -6.6, so that could suggest Tulo is in a defensive decline, but using UZR over a half season is usually never a good idea.

If you want to go with more traditional stats, Tulo has 8 errors all season (in more games played), while Reyes has 8 errors in July alone. Reyes has been in a defensive nightmare lately, and while I don't think those awful numbers are sustainable, I do think it's a sign he's regressing to the point of being one of the worst defensive shortstops in the league. Right now Reyes has a .953 fielding percentage - the worst of his career while Tulo is at .977.

In short they are going from a below average / bad fielding shortstop to probably average, but Tulo's bat and power is where they probably get even more value. Reyes can't hit worth **** from the right side anymore either, so calling him a switch hitter is a bit generous. It does suck that we are losing a left handed bat with speed though.

In a way this move is like stepping in a time machine going back to 2013 -- Reyes 2.0. It was pretty clear Reyes was regressing, so they take on a very similar shortstop to Reyes (just more power, less speed) in 2013 and hopefully they get more than 2 years out of Tulo before massive regression starts to sink in.
