At least Merzlikins had good years before he got that. Petersen only had good years in a very sheltered and isolated use role.

Both are terrible contracts. I can see paying that for kids like ,Sheshterkin Demko , Sorokin , Ottenger , in bridge conracts or comjg off their ELC but those two bums??? They did NOTHING to earn that.
I could MAYBE see if they were gods in junior or pro hockey over seas but…. they were nothing special at all. Peterson was somewhat highly touted but nothing that would warrant that kind of payday

Merzlikins did have a first two years of good in the league. Last year he was just average.

$5 million is too much for him this early. Maybe $4 million is acceptable.

A lot of these teams are handing out money like the cap is still going up every year.
