Jenner is ok.... impact player not so much but a good soldier average teams need... If the Jackets ever make the SC finals he won't be on the team..

I said he was ok... my being not so impressed should not impact a board... I'm only one opinion.

It's not your opinions, Bob, it's those Delphic prophecies (such as the bolded above) that you occasionally announce from within what, in my imagination, seems to be a cloud of mystical smoke that sometimes set my mind to wondering...

Personally, I have no idea how good Jenner will be, whether he'll be on a Cup final Jackets team, or if the team will even make such an appearance in my lifetime. Since I have no magical view into the future, I'll just have to wait and see.

Here is the difference between people who have English as a first language and me, who learned the alphabet in his 20's. I would have said that the bolded statement is just stupid :)

Ah, but had it been written in your native language, I'm sure you could have come up with a much more subtle way of conveying the same message! Isn't language wonderful?! Don't you love how words in any tongue can impart such different tones to a sentiment?!

People were talking about trading Ryan Johansen before the season on this board, because he hadn't developed very much and there was a perceived attitude problem. People were coming up with outlandish ideas; I even recall some people hoping for literally anything to get rid of him. Boone Jenner is playing more as a 20 year old than Johansen did. Chalk it up to injuries or whatever ... fact of the matter is, Jenner is further along in his development as a 20 year old than Ryan was. Does that mean he'll become a first line center on this team? No ... but to make a ridiculous prophetic statement such as the one just made, is really embarrassing ... to the poster who made it.

Let's not forget the "I think we should trade #2 overall for Cory Schneider!", which had some traction among a few.

I love Ryan Murray, but I would still do that deal. I will admit I was wrong about Ryan Johansen during the off-season. A valuable lesson for patience in developing young kids to become professionals.

Really?

For the guy who struggled to replace Luongo, and hasn't taken over for a 41 year old Martin Brodeur?

Murray is one of the top under-22 defensemen in the entire world. Absolutely no way do I trade him for a mid-20s backup goaltender.

Well, to be candid, I said that in the heat of our backup goalie getting his arse handed to him again. Now that cooler heads have prevailed, you're right. I'll keep Murray.

Have never understood the huge love for Schneider. He is a quality (potential anyway) goalie but an awful lot of people have anointed him as the next coming based on what seems to me a very limited resume'.

Although he is struggled recently, the only person other than Johansen and Bob who should be untouchable is Murray. I'll take Murray over Schneider all day

Since this thread was started as a "blow it up" thread, here we sit, 6 points out of a play-off spot with 40 games left.

Now historically, 6 points out at this stage is not a good position to be in at all. Some may argue that the Metro is weak, but there are a few teams starting to get some separation.

Do we stick with what we have and let the chips fall where they may, make some trades, wait till the trade deadline to make a move?

As young as our team is, and the fact that we are getting some people healthy finally, I say stick with what we have and see where we are at come trade deadline.

Then the question will once again surface about blowing it up.

I agree, stay the course and get healthy. Whatever happens happens. If we're close (about where we are at now) at the deadline make a move to get better, if not move some players who won't be here long term (Nikitin maybe?) for another asset that we could use next year (not picks unless they are sweeteners). We're actually pretty close to being a good team.

Yeah, I'm also in patience mode. It would hurt to miss another year of playoffs, but I'm gullible enough to believe that we finally have a chance of breaking through over the next couple of years. I'd rather roll the dice on this year with what we have, and I don't want any of our young players moved for 'help now'.

I'd entertain offers on Gabby and I'd move Nikitin (nothing against him, but don't see him being in the team's long-term plans), but I'm fine if they decide to do nothing of significance between now and the deadline.

Expert post... you are the conscience of this board.... (truth)

That said, when the CBJ make the SC finals in 2030 I doubt Jenner will be on the team... ;)

I agree that we shouldn't make trades now unless a very good offer comes our way like a good young forward for one of our good young defensemen or a super offer for Gabby. Other than that I wouldn't go looking for a deal.

Regarding the playoffs, assuming a team (and only one) like Philly or the Rangers gets hot and finishes with 92 points that means we would need 53 more points to get the third spot. That's in 40 games or 13.25 every ten games. That's a 6-3-1 consistency, which I don't see, or a remarkable run like last year which I think is unlikely. My guess is we miss the playoffs by about the same margin we're out now, maybe a few more.

This team doesn't need to be blown up, but I think it needs some tweaking for next year. Erixon in, Nikitin out; love to see Umby traded for a guy who could contribute next year; a better backup goalie from somewhere. A forward who is a consistent scoring threat. I'm not seeing immediate help in the form of the 2013 draft for a year or two so whatever improvements we make have to come from either trades or free agency. Not seeing a whole lot in free agency so it's either trades or stand pat, imo.

This and every team that wants to compete for the Stanley Cup (after all, that is the goal right, not just playoffs?) need AT LEAST 2-3 stars up front, and 1-2 on the back end. Right now Horton and Gaborik are our best, and neither are really stars. Horton played a support role on a talented Bruins team, and Gaborik appears to be starting his decline. None of the kids in the pipeline have top line star potential, just 2nd and 3rd liners. JK has his work cut out for him.

The Pens may not be the best example as theyre an embarrassment of riches, but at one time they had 3 people on IR that had more skill then anyone on our roster AND still had 2-3 more actually playing! But in the end, thats who youre competing against. The Blues arent considered an overly talented team, but they completely dismantled us.

We may not be far from making the playoffs, but we're far from Stanley Cup contenders IMO

I would say that Johansen and Murray have shown that they have top line star potential, noting the last word in this statement.
