We got snow in April, not the first time, won’t be the last, the doom and hysteria the media cooked up about it has been over the top Leading to panic buying by most of the sheeple!

+1 (34f) yesterday, hardly frigid or blizzard like

the connected crowd have become so soft….

lol...hey if you find 1 degree above zero a pleasant experience in April I'm happy for you. I hate this weather. Yeah, it's going to improve eventually (I hope) but it sucks right now.

What's the media supposed to do here? The weather experts see a pattern that could ramp up to some big shit. Are they supposed to just sit on that and not say anything? I mean if the police have a bomb threat should they keep quiet and hope nothing happens or should they evacuate the building? "sheeple"...lol

Covid has done a number on the media-addicted. I went to Safeway yesterday to buy a litre of milk. They were sold out. :skull::skull::skull::skull:

well I mean anyone that bought more milk than they would normally use in a four or five day period is a moron. Same goes for anyone who actually bought a generator for this specific event. There's sensible prepared and then there's idiotic...

Two days ago I was entreated to the site of a family of four who had filled their entire shopping cart with 2% milk. I counted more than 20 containers.

According to which weather service? Everything I've seen says today is the bad day.
Everything I read mentioned the storm would hit in two waves. These were both in the news Tuesday mid-afternoon.

"On Thursday, snow will begin to re-intensify over the region. Heavy snow will move westwards out of Ontario back across southern Manitoba. It looks likely that snowfall rates over the Red River Valley, including Winnipeg, will be more intense than previously forecast. This is a dynamic and rapidly evolving system; check local forecasts will be updated as required through the day.""

source: Environment Canada

"Thursday:

This is going to be ugly. The storm is in full throttle and northwest winds are strong.

The Colorado Low stalls over Minnesota, keeping Manitoba in its sights the entire day and into Friday.

Temperatures drop so the snow is not as sticky and heavy. Highs will be about –5 C compared to the normal high of 10 C for this time of year.

A further 15-20 cm is likely in the Winnipeg area."

I'm just getting up & it appears Winnipeg didn't get hit overnight like some other areas have. Let's keep in mind this is a rather large storm so I'm not surprised forecasters appear to have dropped the ball on where it would all fall.

Snow in April is commonplace in Winnipeg. Humidity is always high due to the melt & it just takes some near zero degree temperatures. Most often daytime temperatures dispose of it quickly.

Environment Canada's most recent update for Winnipeg is good news. Although it'll be a crappy day, it appears the low pressure cell is weakening & the worst is over.

The day before this storm the grass in my backyard had finally made an appearance ( a small 10 ft X 6 ft patch, but grass none the less ) ... now it looks like it did back in February. I have a bird bath in my yard that was fully exposed and it's 3 feet tall... today, it's completely under snow, again.

So, anyone who thinks we didn't get much snow is more than welcome to come shovel it.

For sure. I made my way into the shop this morning and did a bit of shoveling. There's a solid foot of snow and it's wet and heavy. We got quite a lot of it no doubt. Henderson is certainly drivable, but the side roads are a mess.

Curious to see the outcome of this. I was definitely around for 97. Was also around for November 1986 which I thought was considerably worse than 97. Also alive for 66 though I was only 2 at the time, but I've seen pictures and I think it topped both from what I've heard.

Thanks for the posts regarding the Jets game tomorrow and it's cancellation. Happy to hear I don't have to steal my wife's truck to get to the game. You can take the wife off the farm, but you canna have her truck.
I was around for all those too. I thought 86 was worse because it shut the city down for days. I drove down Lagimodiere a couple of days after and it was a single lane tunnel.

The '97 storm was pretty intense. I'd been working that night at the Mondetta World Cafe & staff & patrons all had their cars stuck in & around Johnson Terminal. It was impossible to get a cab & I ended up walking my friend Margaret home to her nearby condo. I ended up snowed in at her place for the next 48 hours during which I had a celebrity encounter.

She was in the shower when her phone rang & she hollered out to answer it. I spent a few minutes on the phone with someone named Al who was calling from L.A. He'd been watching CNN & they were covering the storm of the century & so called to hear first hand how bad it was. We spent 5 minutes on the phone talking shop until our mutual friend got herself dry & I turned the phone over.

After she hung up I was rather curious who she was talking to. To my knowledge she was single, but in eavesdropping on the conversation it was clear that the two had a romantic relationship. It turned out she was dating Weird Al Yankovic, having met him during his Winnipeg concert at the Walker the year prior.

When they leave my team they are dead to me .....

Depend on the circumstances, no?

Copp was treated poorly by the Jets management and yet was the consummate team player until the end. I will follow his career with interest and always be a big fan, as per my farewell comments below. The circumstances were completely different with, eg, Trouba and Laine.
This one hurts. Copp is the kind of player that every championship team needs--strong defensive game, top 6 (and growing) offensive production, plays big minutes in every situation, great ambassador and leader.

I would not be surprised at all if he wins a Cup with NYR and finds work in their organization or media after his playing career is over.

Happy for him. Not happy with TNSE these days.
