It obviously works well right now. I get the discussion about whether he is a player you should sign to a big multi-year deal, alright, but trying to put his actual play this season down seems misguided and maybe grudge-y. There are so many wingers who have proven over and over that not everyone just scores oodles with Malkin in the last seasons.

really happy for Comeau. I was a big Comeau fan when he was an Islander, though he was a frustrating player at times. He struggled with consistency and never learned to simplify his game and was eventually waived but seems to have really found a nice role with the Pens. He's NOT a product of Sid/Geno at all IMO. I watch a fair bit of Pens games and Comeau (and Perron for that matter) have just played well - period.

Comeau always had a good shot, was rarely in positions to use it though. He played a lot on the perimeter, he carried the puck into nowhere far too often and got little results. I thought he had the potential to be a good bottom six defensive player if he changed his game and upped the work ethic, and he seems to have done that. He's become a pretty reliable depth winger who can move up and down the line-up and chip in offensively. Coincidentally, he's done for PIT (along with Perron) what Grabovski and Kulemin have done for the Islanders!

That's part of the reason he is so good with Malkin, Geno carries the puck so there is no opportunity for Comeau to puckhog and as almost everyone has pointed out he does have a good heavy shot. He seems to be smart enough to get into good positions, has looked good on the LW (Big bonus given how the Pens are suddenly overloaded with righties) as well as being a puckhound and physical.

What a pickup by GMJR. Comeau (still only 28) has grit, has speed, has a nice shot, goes to the net and reads plays pretty well. Plays a decent defensive game as well. How in the hell is this guy making 0.7M??

11 goals, 8 assists, +7 in 30 games so far. Guy´s gonna get a nice paycheck this summer. Wish the Pens were able to keep him, but there will be some teams like Florida throwing crazy money on him.

imagine that--A player playing on a stacked team has good stats-I guess he had the same stats with the BJS last year?

Had one very good season for the Islanders scoring 25 goals or so, then followed up the next going scoreless for two months and getting waived.

Very streaky player who've never got his game together since that one great season, but if he does well in Pitts it's good for him, but any GM giving him a multi-year deal is crazy. Two years at around a million is more sane.

haha only worth a million?

This is ridiculous. He's a capable tweener. Those players get more than a million these days....

Not even going scoreless, he wasn't on the ice for an Islander goal. It was pathetic. Brian Rolston's work ethic really rubbed off on him.

And yet he has the hockey sense to play with and read Malkin, which is no easy task.

Are you sure it's not Malkin reading him? Because unless he's changed, his repertoire consists of roughly two strategies, which means he's not going to be hard to find.

He goes to the right areas to score his goals so he can't be that dumb.

In the top 40 for goals per game in the NHL. He's having a pretty good year.

Like I said, great shot, great tools. But I've never seen him play off a teammate or drive anything on his own, even against bottom sixers. Also, he used to have a penchant for taking stupid offensive zone penalties; not sure if that's the case with him in Pit yet or not.

That is the impression i got from him on long island as well. That endless circling of the net=Puck hog carrousel.

That drove me absolutely insane when he was on the Flames.

GMJR came in and made a bunch of value signings for short term that seemed based on (at least PARTLY) analytics. Funny how those tend to work out decently well :)

"How is he only making 700K" ..... Pretty easy actually. If he was to ask for anymore than this this past July he'd of gotten laughed at

Dime a dozen player is all I'm saying. Not some diamond in the rough. If he leaves Pittsburgh, you'll forget about him once the next perennial bottom 6er comes in and works his ass off.

He's nothing special.

He is not a top end talent or anything but he did have a couple of decent season with the Islanders and probably is worth more that $700K in today's NHL.

Comeau has played well for Pitt. But, at the end of the day, he is a bubble guy. He'll get into a grove when things are going well for him. Sooner or later though, he always reverts.

If Pitt signs him to a multiyear million deal, Pens will really regret it.

Penguins were 8-9-3 when Comeau left the lineup. First game back he scores a goal and an assist and is the first star of the night. Having a very solid game against Ottawa right now, too. What a great pickup.

Pens fans have seen the best of Comeau, both now and when he would play us with the isles. He played some good games vs us and for us, but I do agree, in his career he has been extremely inconsistent. I don't want the pens to bring him back for decent money and I really want a good alternative for the playoffs in case he goes back into sucky blake comeau mode, not producing and taking dumb penalties...

Comeau just showed some awesome vision and hands finding Malkin with a really nice pass for a goal. Guy's just on fire and showing unreal chemistry on this Malkin/Hornqvist line.
