Good for Commie. Worked hard, had a decent skill set. But Calgary didn't have any centers of the Crosby/Malkin calibre. They open up a lot of space for guys like him. Didn't mind him, but we have a few guys young and take that same role. But then again I like Borq too, just couldn't put it together consistently over an entire season.

Quite a statement. Good post. Guy has skill and is maximizing his opportunity. I can see where he could struggle though. More of a trigger man than a driver of offense.

Honestly one of the dumbest hockey players I've ever seen play. It seems as though he's cut back a bit and has become more disciplined with the Pens though.

Wait til he starts doing his ozone circles. Only Jason Blake was worse. At least blakey had an idea. It seems sometimes that comeau starts doing the circles because he has no idea what else he could do.

He circled the o-zone twice during the same shift he scored the OT goal on. I'd read about his circling the world in the past and when he started doing it yesterday I got the giggles.

lol @ people saying he's only worth 700k.

Tanner Glass wouldn't play next to Malkin and score 11 goals in 30 games. He makes 1.5 mil. In the world where David Clarkson 5.25mil for 30 point seasons, Comeau is appropriately paid at 700k.

I guess all of the other solutions at wing that Pittsburgh has tried with Geno over the years but never stuck must have been extra bad considering how bad Comeau is but how good Malkin makes him look.

He was interviewed after the game yesterday where he said that the Jackets wanted him to use his speed and be a hitter...so he became a hitter. When you're mindset is to take the body at every opportunity, you're going to take some penalties when you'e not used to it.

First couple of weeks when he was bottom six he took a few penalties and I'd roll my eyes because I remember how dumb he was against the Pens in the playoffs last year when he took a bunch of minors for late hits, etc. The second they put him up with Malkin, it just stopped because he's not taking the body as often. I can't even remember the last penalty he took, much less the last DUMB penalty he took.

I doubt he continues like this, but at that salary he's at WORSE a 3rd wheel option on a scoring line. At best, he's an effective bottom sixer with speed, some scoring ability and physicality.

In the end, he's not Tanner Glass, who was as worthless a player as I've ever seen wear that uniform.

He is obviously absolutely amazing bang for your buck right now, but I wouldn't not want to sign him in a free market based in these stats next summer. It's going to be Stalberg bad. Or, if he keeps it up, even worse.

He had poor numbers on previous teams because they were all terrible teams.

Hes playing great right now and has a ton of confidence playing in the top 6

The Flames were bad for sure but Comeau was the worst forward on ice for most of his time in Calgary. It wasn't a case of poor chemistry, he simply sucked. As previously mentioned, he just didn't look he knew what he was doing.

Good to see him turn it around though, obviously he has some tools as he's been productive in the past as well (NYI).

As a Rangers fan, how worthless is he on a scale of 1 to 10?

The guy just did NOTHING well. Even his hits came about 3 seconds after the puck was gone and didn't disrupt a single play. I think I hated him more than any other player the Pens had since the '05 lockout.

Dime a dozen player is all I'm saying. Not some diamond in the rough. If he leaves Pittsburgh, you'll forget about him once the next perennial bottom 6er comes in and works his ass off.

He's nothing special.

Dime a dozen means average, yes? And as far as I remember an average salary in the NHL is well above 700k.

I didn't realize Blake Comeau was so despised...

He's been a great pickup so far, but I wouldn't be shocked if he ended the season with only 16-20 goals. He's been overachieving for sure, but I still really like his game.

Was very streaky in Columbus, a team that fit his tool set very well. Was flat out terrible at the end of the season and in the playoffs, but looked like a top 6 skater for long stretches of the season.

You guys are seeing the "good Blake Comeau". The guy that plays hard along the walls, finishes his checks and has a nice hard wrister he likes to let go from the half walls on a rush.

That guy, he's worth a few mil.

Wait until you get a sniff of "bad Comeau". The one with a ten cent brain that takes the absolute worst back breaking penalties at the worst times possible. The one that holds onto the puck too long to the point where he's wheeling it around the net and circling it out of the offensive zone all by himself. The guy that all of a sudden starts playing softer than a wet sponge.

That guy, he's not even worth the 700K he's getting right now.

It's more frustrating than anything else, because he's absolutely capable of being a 30 goal scorer in someones middle six.
