What a pickup by GMJR. Comeau (still only 28) has grit, has speed, has a nice shot, goes to the net and reads plays pretty well. Plays a decent defensive game as well. How in the hell is this guy making 0.7M??

11 goals, 8 assists, +7 in 30 games so far. Guy´s gonna get a nice paycheck this summer. Wish the Pens were able to keep him, but there will be some teams like Florida throwing crazy money on him.

Hot streak and nothing more. Any idiot GM who pays him over a million will regret it.
In the league where Tanner Glass makes 1.5M and Deryk Engelland almost 3M?? Nah, I don´t think so. Comeau was also skating circles around the whole Avs D in OT, it´s not just some crazy luck. Guy is playing legitimately well and with some confidence. I understand a Flames fan doubting him, though ;)

Dime a dozen player is all I'm saying. Not some diamond in the rough. If he leaves Pittsburgh, you'll forget about him once the next perennial bottom 6er comes in and works his ass off.

He's nothing special.

No, but he's playing like he's worth 4-5x what he's making.

And I must be missing all of these perennial bottem 6ers with great work ethics coming in and doing this for the Penguins...the last one who fits that mold was Pascal Dupuis...who was weeks away from turning 28 when acquired as a throw-in. Odds are he gets way overpaid elsewhere after this season, but that doesn't make him any less of a steal for what he's providing right now.

A lot of third liners will look good playing next to malkin. Next season on another team he'll go back to what he always has been.

Malkin has 7 ES goals, Hornqvist has 7 ES goals, Crosby has 5 ES goals, Kunitz has 4, Letang has 6.. etc. Blake Comeau has 11 ES goals. Enough said.

It´s not like playing with Malkin and Klinkhammer/Spaling is that easy. There were a lots of below-average wingers that failed in that role before. Btw right now, Malkin is playing on the wing and Sutter is his centre.

He's certainly flourished in our top 6 compared to the Tyler Kennedy's of the hockey world.

I wouldn't call him a solution long term but he's been a damn fine stop gap.

Comeau can skate, has a heavy shot and just seems like a player that can really take advantage of the extra time and space a player like Malkin can create for him. Of course not every team has a Malkin or a Crosby for that matter, so he wouldn't be nearly as effective for most teams.

Throwing "crazy" money at this guy would be nuts but its still nice to see him doing well.

This.

Everyone knows Malkin/Crosby inflates your point totals by a big margin. Every player seems to produce when you put them with Crosby/Malkin. Of course...

He's been worth his contract and then some. He's got great chemistry with Malkin, almost like Neal did (although obviously Neal was the better player). I never liked Comeau before this season and was pretty ambivalent on the signing but he's really won me over.

If that's true then why isn't Nick Spaling increasing his scoring at the same level Comeau is? Most players are going to get some benefit playing with Crosby or Malkin, but it's actually not that common to see someone instantly click with one of them the way Comeau has with Malkin. And it's been more than just a little boost as well, I believe I read that Comeau has already scored more goals this season than he did in the last 2-3 seasons combined. They're not garbage time goals or leeching off of a good PP either. 11ES goals and 3 of them are game winners.

It's weird. He had a decent season with the Islanders and then was back to being a tweener. He HAS looked better this year but until I see two years in a row of the same results I'd call this year an aberration.
