I do think torching the guy after his first game action since he got injured is a bit low. He's rehabbing in the AHL and not the NHL for a reason.
Inflating his stats with an AHL game.....always going out of the way to defend this guy!And with tonight's game?
Blackwood is now an .891% over his last 63 pro hockey games
.890.8% to be exact.
At the very best? He's BAD
At the very worst? He's the second or third worst goalie in the NHL
You gotta be really bad to sustain that over 63 games.
How many times are we gonna do this? You did the same thing with Schneider. It was always the same excuses. How many years does he have to be bad for to write him off?I do think torching the guy after his first game action since he got injured is a bit low. He's 26 years old and without a bad hip. I would hold off on the gravestone just yet. There is a chance that you are correct. There is also a chance that he rebounds.Blackwood is a career .896% in 89 games in the AHL
And tonight was his first game in the AHL in almost 4 years.
So that means 88 of those games happened quite a bit before his NHL ''Decline'' started.
But was it actually a decline? Is it possible that maybe he just isn't any good?

Just pull the plug on him.
He should be done here.
Not because of tonight but because of the SIXTY TWO games before this.
This is pretty much what he is.
Yeah, sorry I want to see the guy play more than one game on our minor league team after he comes back from injury before I write him off. I'm not a fan of his or his play the past few seasons but calling him on his first game back in action is shortsighted and dishonest. The only thing you should be hoping for in a situation like this is that he survives the first game back without injury. How many times are we gonna do this? You did the same thing with Schneider. First of all, I think any chance of him rebounding starts with him going to another organization. It's not gonna happen here, if it happens anywhere. He needs to be Steve Mason'd to another team if that's gonna happen. He's 26 years old and without a bad hip. I would hold off on the gravestone just yet. There is a chance that you are correct. That was the point. Why did I take that last part very pervertedly? Is that even a word?
Imagine paying him $3-$4 million to play here next year, and then talking why we had to lowball this guy or that guy or cut costs with how much we spend on other areas.
There’s way better players than him that will be cheaper next year.
And I’m not just talking in goal.
The Devils try for sex, Blackwood gets heartburn 1 minute in and lets in a pile of goals?First of all, I think any chance of him rebounding starts with him going to another organization. Divorce is badly needed.
The sex stopped a long time ago. This is definitely separate bedrooms territory. It's gonna become completely toxic if he costs us points by running to play him every 3 games (or more) once he gets back to the NHL team.
Most people will say injuries and covid, but when you look at his AHL career, look at those numbers. They were eerily similar to his last 62 NHL games to date.Out of towner here, what happened to Blackwood, he had two decent seasons to start his career?
If we're gonna talk wins, the guy that's replacing him right now literally has only one loss in a game he started.I mean I'm pretty much resigned he's getting another shot unless he's just so bad during this rehab stint that they come up with another phony (or real) injury and just bury him for the year. I doubt they'll ever get to the point of cutting him until the offseason but at the moment there's less reason to give him starts over Vanecek than there was to give Marty starts over Cory lol. Cory was playing better but not winning plus the other guy's a legend, Vanecek is playing better AND winning while the other guy's just a disgruntled employee. Not to mention another goalie's playing better too.
Truth be told, I am one of those fans. I love the Comets as they are my hometown team, but respectfully despise the NJD. They are a very good team this year and I respect them a lot. You fans are as passionate as it gets in the league.Fans of Utica that don't give a shit about the NHL Devils are probably dying to get Schmid back.
Well, he had two good years, but the first year was in sporadic, isolated starts, where he was mostly playing every other game. They let him get a good run in when he first got called up.I saw some people saying this is like the Schenider situation.
Schneider literally broke down. His hips went, and his confidence went with him. Difference is Schneids gave us a good run of games (although at the wrong time of our team), and genuinely seemed to be very sad and frustrated that his body let him down. I genuinely felt bad for Cory at the end.
Blackwood just, I think, had one good year and regressed back to the mean.
LOL I'd find it very hard to be a passionate minor league fan for reasons like thatFans of Utica that don't give a shit about the NHL Devils are probably dying to get Schmid back.

I was kind of wondering the same thing.which gets me wondering.. do you have a team you follow in the NHL? .....you know, .... 'your team' or is it straight up utica and that's all?
I was kind of wondering the same thing.
There are some fans who prefer minor league hockey to major league. Or minor league/college league sports in general to the majors.
I’ve met people who like college football better than pro. A few people have said they enjoy it more because they like the idea of football on a Saturday and not Sunday. Because Sunday is the end of the weekend and Saturday gives them something to look forward to at the start of the weekend.
The only hockey in my city is UNB-STU. Even then, it's pretty tame as UNB is a CIS Hockey powerhouse and STU is doodoo.ya, not wasting a saturday afternoon to watch college football ever, and march madness?! what the f***? .... shit, devils afternoon games in the fall are terrible for viewing when the weather is nice out..... but it gets families into the place.
i went to a couple of marlies games a while back.....but only because it was the devils farm team playing here.
So true. So much roster change and any time a player gets too good he’s probably gone. Half the time I’m just cheering for Jack and Nico points.LOL I'd find it very hard to be a passionate minor league fan for reasons like that
I think college sports are much like that, for the fact that there’s a massive roster turnover. No one stays on the team for longer than 4 years and there’s so much change from year to year, due to guys either graduating or ending up in the pro leagues and then new players coming in every year out of high school. So true. I still even think that’s more fun because of the college atmosphere. And a lot of players play the full 4 years. And there’s a constant influx of new kids coming in as freshman and it’s fun to see how they do and develop over their 4 years. And if you’re a Michigan fan or some other big school you get to watch top NHL prospects all the time. Most of the top guys don’t go to the AHL or spend much time there at all if they do. But I think it’s interesting to see young guys come out of junior leagues and high school.
