Already posted it in the AHL thread, but goal 2 was definitely a BAD goal. Not further replays or context needed. Very routine shot and either leaked through him or went short side. It was absolutely a stoppable shot.




Goal 1 he looked like he played like he was Jonathan Quick. He just totally falls down, however I'm not sure if he fell down to his belly before or after the puck already ended up in the back of the net.

Goal 3 was a 5 on 3 goal. Looked probably deflected by a skater in front. The replays aren't long enough and there's no alternate angles, so it's hard to say for sure. Looked deflected though.

He has to go through waivers at the end of the conditioning period, but otherwise yes.

Does it really matter anymore? Schmid can suck for the rest of the year and still likely not be any worse than Blackwood currently is.

Vanecek can play mediocre from here on out and would still be better than Blackwood.

To qualify him next year would be as bad or worse than if we had signed Marty in 2014 to ''Back up'' Cory for another year.

Can't do anything but move on for $3-$4 million for next year.

Does he wanna play here for less than his qualifying offer? Or play here and compete for either an AHL spot or the clear cut NHL backup? I don't think so. He can literally play for $1 million for several other teams that wanna take a chance on a reclamation project that's still fairly young.

Back in 2016, maybe 2017 he does.

His AHL stats are .896% in 89 games. Probably slightly better if you combine his 4 playoff games of .928%.

But still, .896% in 89 games is just slightly reminiscent of his stats over a pretty long (not quite as long) stretch in another league.....

Utica brings it to within one

Blackwood promptly gives up another goal 60 seconds later

Looked real shaky on it and probably should have saved at the near side post, before the guy brought it around and passed it to a guy in the slot that shot over him and in.

But again, it's hard to say exactly what happened there with that limited of footage and angles and lack of replay.

At the very least, I'd say he looked stupid on goal 1 and goal 2 is a bad goal.

Just rip the bandaid off with this guy already.

Fans of Utica that don't give a shit about the NHL Devils are probably dying to get Schmid back.

Here's what's probably gonna happen

I think he'll play good in his next outing in Utica

And then the faith and hope will be back on

And his first game will mean nothing because he was ''Rusty, hasn't played for over a month, first game back'' whatever.

At the very least, the coaching staff and management have to at least be smart enough to not wanna experiment with giving him 40% or god forbid 50% of the games once he gets back.

If you're panicking about the standings right now...... You ain't seen nothing yet if that happens.
