I don't know if settle is the right word for Yamamoto. He's playing thr best hockey of his life and is scoring a ton. I think it comes down to which of the two is willing to take the lower salary next year. Yamamoto certainly appears to have the higher offensive upside right now. I just think he will want to get paid more.
It's no disrespect intended to Yamamoto at all but Jesse would fit the needs of the Devils a lot better

You are sort of proving my point. For Blackwood, I am lukewarm on him and I definitely dont think we would need to offer such a huge package for him. My statement was more general, and your statement about how goalies are "voodoo" proves it. Goalies are a skill position just like any other, and are subject to ups and downs just like any other position. There are high profile goalie flubs like Bobrovsky, and high profile forward and defense flubs like Skinner and Karlsson as well. So no, Markstrom isnt a player that proves your point. He proved my point. He was near elite in Vancouver and his talent has carried over with only a minor blip. It's just like any position
What point ? Your argument is the Oilers fans don't want to pay for a goalie . I disagree . I would offer up our 1st this year and next for a goalie signed for 3 or 4 years . I am not willing to give up our top prospect for a goalie that is a UFA as they are unlikely to re-sign . I also would've outbid Calgary on Markstrom as it was only money . Again I am not willing to gut the team especially on question marks . If NJD would take a 2nd and a B prospect Blackwood would be worth a try . The Problem is we get offer Binnington at 6 million long term and he is worst then Koskinen but i guess you are ok with getting crap as most Oiler fans only say no to question marks and you are arguing that Oilers fans don't want to pay up .

I may be guilt of overstating Woods impact but he’s the exact kind of player all playoff teams covet, he has the speed to keep up in the top 6, parks his giant ass in front of the net and drive opponents nuts. Whenever he’s in the lineup, no matter who they’re playing the other team chases him around and takes penalties.

Adding a player like Wood as well as a starting goalie in Blackwood definitely takes some of the sting of losing Jesse, in my opinion anyway

Can I ask what Wood's one trick is?

Well, Wood has one playoff appearance and didn't do anything in it except rack up PIM. His fancies are middling. He's not very physical. He's a volume shooter with a career shooting percentage of 9%, so he's not a one shot scorer. His fancies are a mix of middling and bad. He doesn't kill penalties.

He reminds me strongly of a faster Warren Foegele in a "jack of all trades, master of none" vein. Yeah, he's fast, but is he *effective*? And now he's coming off of a major injury and the fact that I am not *at all* enamoured with Blackwood and think he's more reclamation project than sure thing, and I would be pretty damned upset if a trade of Puljujarvi for a fresh off of missing basically a whole season Wood + a hasn't even been middling for two years Blackwood as a base went down. I think we're the ones taking every ounce of the risk in such a deal.

1) Okay, he's off the table. (He shouldn't be)
2) I agreed with this statement and said the deal would probably have to expand to bridge the gap
3) Yes, I responded to that with how they shouldn't be interested
4) I must have just skimmed right over that part, but maybe there is something there
5) Why am I so forgetful? Well, it's because I'm old and supposed to be working right now lol

well, it's all relative.

For MacKenzie Blackwood and bits and pieces, Puljujarvi is so far off the table he's not even in the house anymore.

For Jesper Bratt, sure, we could talk Puljujarvi.

Fans on this site always want to be the ones giving up a collection of lesser assets for a greater asset. Frankly as far as the Devils go the only pieces I'd talk Puljujarvi on would be Bratt and Hamilton since we've got McDavid and Drai as 1-2 C.

My point is that there is no striking out. If they're in the market for a Husso or a Kuemper in the summer, they're communicating with those agents that Blackwood won't be in the picture.

There won't be any heels dragging. If the Devils are moving on from him, it'll be done quickly. It's pretty unlikely you see New Jersey go into next season with three goalies. The way this story reads, it's pretty unlikely they go into next season with the same tandem as well.
I get it but until Husso and/or Kuemper put pen to paper you don't have another goalie. I'd hope that if they sign another one they move on from Blackwood but not until after they sign another one or maybe even two. If they sign one goalie this offseason they might bring Blackwood back to avoid having to play Daws again. I'm skeptical we ever see Bernier again except maybe for a late season start or two next year to try to salvage another contract from a different team. NJ won't want to be thin at goalie next season so I could see them at least trying to line up three goalies even if that doesn't pan out.

Okay, you don't watch or know much about the Devils. It's okay
This is not meant to be rude, it's just obvious if you think Bratt and Puljujarvi are close in value.
I am an Oiler fan 80 games a season (only the 2 against NJ) so I watch a lot of Oiler games and all the Devil games.

Your opinion on Woodi is odd to say the least, he led this team in goals last season and was an absolute menace every time he touched the ice. He is quite physical hits, will fight and is terrible to play against.

He is coming off a major injury sure, but he's played a couple games and will hopefully play the rest of them, this hypothetical trade would be happening in the offseason anyway, assuming he plays the rest without issue and has the full offseason to recover he should be good as new.

I do agree about Blackwood probably not being the best option for the Oilers but getting him plus Wood makes them a lot tougher to play against IMO

My comment on the Oilers not being willing to pay for goalie was clearly not about the offer, but about the response. I attempted to make this even more clear by saying not that they should accept this offer.

The reason the Oilers continue to look for a goalie is they aren't willing to pay for one.
He tabled a similar offer for Kuemper, obviously not as good or they'd have taken it
He got outbid on Markstrom who was pretty clearly looking for the biggest money

And now they have a shot a young starting goalie but they aren't willing to part with Pulujarvi, a 1st, Bouchard or Broberg in any way to get one.

The Oilers and their fans think teams will give them a starter for spare parts and late round picks and are shocked when the once again miss out on a goalie.

I say all this as a Devil fan living 2 hours away from Edmonton, so I follow this team closely.
Not true. Oilers are just not willing to give up any of those assets for a goalie like Blackwood. Thats not the same thing.

Arg, I can't seem to make it make sense to other people.
I'm not trying to say they should do it for Blackwood alone, but if the Devils are adding pieces or taking bad contracts they should be willing to at least discuss it.

People keep thinking I'm saying they should give up Puljujarvi straight up for Blackwood and that's not what I'm saying at all but if you're getting a Wood/Zacha/McLeod/Smith level player plus Blackwood they should absolutely be interested.

I didn't say they were close in value. I just said those would be the only pieces I would be willing to discuss in a hypothetical Puljujarvi trade. Hughes and Hischier would be wasted on the third line or shifted to the wing. You want something better for a couple of lesser pieces, which is fine, standard operating procedure for HF, but I'm not interested in that in the least and the Oilers shouldn't be either.

He really isn't that physical. His career high in hits is 102, he had a grand total of 38 last year. Yamamoto is more physical than that. Foegele has 109 this year and he's not really that physical either. Wood has fought twice in the last three years, and frankly that doesn't add any value to me whatsoever.

Ultimately, I think you know that Wood is a lesser player than Puljujarvi, who is younger, better, not injured and the definition of nightmarish to play against. You're hoping to get him for a couple of guys that you could do without, which is fine, I just want no part of it because I don't buy what you're selling on Wood and i've more than said my piece on Blackwood, who I honestly have trouble seeing having any value whatsoever, never mind enough to make up the gap between Wood and Puljujarvi.

Pulujarvi or Yamamoto for Blackwood+ certainly could be interesting, depending on what the + is.

Why, though?

Kane and Hyman on the left side means Wood would be 3LW here and we already have Great Value Miles Wood in Warren Foegele in that spot. Our McLeod coming up and looking really good as a current/future 3C and I think he's better than his brother. Zacha is...fine, but doesn't excite me at all. Smith is in the middle of a rough sophomore slump and is a 3LD right now.

Any of the above plus Blackwood minus Puljujarvi just blows a bigger hole in our team than the one we're filling since Blackwood is a massive question mark, and everything else is just meh from our standpoint.

Personally I view Jesse Puljujarvi as a foundational piece for this team and wouldn't move him unless someone blew my socks off. Yamamoto could be more available, but he's coming into his own too.

In all fairness, Kane may not be back and Hyman can play either side. I don't think Pulujarvi is impossible to replace in our middle six, although I would prefer to keep him if we ca.

Kane doesn't have much for other options, I think on some level he knows he's on his last strike and I think Puljujarvi would be a lot harder to replace than you and some others think. Our record without him was abysmal and he does so many little things that other players can't or won't.

Blackwood scares the shit out of me and no goalie that comes here gets better. Blackwood+ for Puljujarvi would be a monumental risk for Edmonton and I'd need to be thoroughly compensated from a GM POV for considering it.

Blackwood now value wise is basically what Puljujarvi was before he went back overseas. Down trending player who has been riddled with injuries this year that sv percentage isn't any better than the guys we have now why would the Oilers throw away offensive depth for that?

I see your point on a lot of things. I think Kane will have more options over the summer than he did mid-season, but I hope he wants to re-sign with us, he's fit in very well.

Pulujarvi would be tough to replace, I don't think it would be easy, but it might be easier than finding a starting goalie. If Miles Wood is healthy, I think he brings a lot of what Pulujarvi does, with more scoring. Pulujarvi was out while Nuge, Keith, and probably others I'm not remembering were also out. Our awful losing streak I think was from a combination of guys out and other stuff in the locker room.

Blackwood concerns me as well. His inconsistent performance is risky. As per the "no goalie who comes here gets better" statement, I'd take our blueline and system over New Jersey's right now, so he actually might get better here. My bigger concern is the length of time until he has a new contract.

Well, considering the Oilers cap situation I don't see a number of contracts coming back for one in Puljujarvi. I think a quantity for quality trade is not going to work for Edmonton. Also Puljujarvi is Edmonton's best option at RW.

Blackwood's value right now isn't as high as it has been in the past. What is his market value?

Still, I think if he is healthy he could be a nice add in goal for the Oilers.

I don't think Blackwood on his own has enough value to make it worth trading him, if they move him and strike out on getting another goalie it's going to be worse than this year.

I do think Edmonton and NJ make a lot of sense for a deal though with the Devils ability to absorb some of those cap problems but I don't know what that would look like and most Oiler fans think any offer is insulting

Arg. I cant seem to make you understand. If the Oilers are giving up assets for a goalie it has to be one that is good and proven. And yes it will/may cost more than JP. There is no benefit in the Oilers giving up ANY assets for a goalie that is either not good or is a question mark.

While I agree Blackwood probably doesn't fetch a 1st, nor would the Devils be overly interested in a pick as the main piece for him.

I do however think he makes a lot of sense for the Oilers and could rebound nicely in a new city, so if I'm the Oilers I'm looking to get Wood or Zacha as well especially if the ask is Jesse.

The other reason dealing with NJ is a benefit, they have the cap space to take a guy like Kassian or Smith off your hands.

If you had a guy like Wood in your lineup you wouldn't miss Jesse in the least

I'd probably peg Blackwood at that 2nd + b prospect area. Maybe 2 2nd's if Smith goes with the picks.

I wouldn't trade Puljujarvi for a package.

I think NJ should keep Blackwood, simply offer him a low cost 1yr contract and make him earn it. Get a better 2nd goalie, Kahkonen for example

Okay, who is the goalie you have in mind? And what are they going to do when they miss?
