I wonder what a fair trade would be for the Oilers to acquire Mackenzie Blackwood. He seems to want out and the Devils seem to want to move him. What would be a good deal for both teams?

Are the Devils looking for a prospect or a pick? Or are they looking for a current roster player?

By the writing on the wall it looks like the Devils are going to move on from Blackwood.
That could be the case, but he doesn't has leverage to make the Devils trade him so I can't imagine they will unless they have a replacement for him.
Trading him first puts you in a position where you're forced to overpay because everyone knows you NEED a goalie.

I think both the player and the team are looking to part ways. This may be one of those situations where a GM thinks he is making an addition by subtraction. The situation between the player and the team might be unravelling and Fitzgerald could be looking to deal Blackwood sooner rather than later.

He could then focus on signing for a UFA goalie or making another deal to get one.

Is It Time for the New Jersey Devils to Pull the Plug on MacKenzie Blackwood?

This isn’t breaking news, but Friedman once again confirmed the Devils are searching for wingers to play alongside Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier.

This seems like a good target for the Oilers if other options dont pan out.

It sounds like the Devils might need some time to sort out their goaltending before dealing him anyway.

I understand they may want to move on from him as well, but I just can’t see them doing it unless they’ve got a replacement. Heading into a season with Bernier with his bad hip and Daws as your top 2 goalies is a horrible idea. If they get someone else, then they’ll absolutely move him, but you can’t just trade him in hopes you’ll find another goalie.

I'll bring the chairs and the portable inflated pool because you definitely ain't getting Jesse for a struggling goalie.
This is why the Oilers will continue to have goalie issues, they won’t pony up and pay for one. Not to say they should accept this trade specificity but they’ve been consistently refusing to pay for one

Oh we have issues cause we wouldn’t do a terrible trade for a goalie? Good to know.

I am pretty sure he isn't .
I am wrong

Friedman also dove into Blackwood’s COVID-19 vaccination status and how that caused a strain between the two sides. For those who don’t remember, Blackwood was one of a handful of NHL players who were not vaccinated against COVID-19 to start the 2021-22 season. He eventually got the jab, but it affected the team’s start to the new campaign and left a sour taste among Devils management.
