Proposal: Blackwood for Gibson (as a basis)?

Would Anaheim and New Jersey fans have any interest in a Blackwood-for-Gibson swap? Extra pieces going either way as needed

The reasoning Id have for Anaheim is they are a year or so behind NJ in the rebuild IMO, and so by the time they are rounding into playoff form you'll probably have Gibson around age 30-31; and thats not old but Blackwood would be a chance for a goalie to grow with them, and he has had a rift with NJ about the way they handled his injury in early 2021

As for NJ they arent much farther in the rebuild as theyre a bottom-7 tram this season with Anaheim, but I think most can see NJ was a case of extremely bad goaltending and injurie woes in net. Theyve scored a lot for such a young team and are bolstering the roster each year with wealthy owners willing to spend, and so a steady starter would likely push them to being a team fighting for a wild card, which is very important for the stud #1 overalls to start seeing (meaningful games in March and April)

As for the exact value Im not too sure, but thats what the discussion is for. This would also be assuming NJ isn't on his modified no-trade list. The only draft pick off-limits for NJ is their 1st this year, which will be top-7. What would make it work for this deal to go through?

That's as lowball as they get. Getting a 3rd for Blackwell is maybe possible in a perfect world. An NHL starter? You can try.....

This is an absolutely terrible proposal.

I don't think Blackwood has half the value you think he does.

I didnt make a proposal?

I said Blackwood for Gibson as a basis, I never offered anything else. Its not 1-for-1.

Things can be added, thats what Im asking people

Changed the tag to speculation since it must be confusing

If the ducks moved him they could probably get 1st+conditional 1st, great prospect and roster player.

So maybe add a 1st and really good prospect

I think this was broached and they were asking about a first round pick. I'd say they would do Blackwell and a 1rst or there about. I certainly think we'd be interested if Campbell doesn't get far this playoffs.

NJ's 2023 1st is certainly in play, Im sure with some sort of lottery protection.

Their 2022 1st however is a crucial piece to the future and likely our last time picking that low if we dont bottom out on the goaltending market; and so I dont think it realistically is in play for a 28yo coming off two rough seasons, albeit on a very bad team

Maybe something like Blackwood+2023 1st (lottery protected)+Kevin Bahl/Nolan Foote?

Edit: id probably need a 2nd coming back in like 2024 , feels a little much from NJ

Sorry. I got my players mixed up. I shouldn't really be in on this.

I’ll be open to this as a NJ fan. But 1st round pick, this year or next is not on the table. If Blackwood is going the other way, NJ wouldn’t need to add much more.

NJ may be willing to do so....not for Gibson though. Maybe Hellebuyck if he's available.

No way NJ trades a top 3-5 pick AND Blackwood for Gibson, that's wishful thinking and ridiculous.
The 1st doesnt have to be this years first...... and almost certainly would be a 2023 with conditions or a 2024 1st

Lots of teams need goaltending and Gibson is still well above average, isn’t he? He should fetch a decent haul.

Eh, still not giving up a top prospect at all along with let's say a 2023 protected top 3 pick for Gibson. He's good, but I do not think he takes NJ to where we need to go.

Idk what our GM is going to do...but I don't think this is going to be it.

Umm yes Gibson will return good pieces but let’s not get crazy here.
Exactly. NJ aint giving up Holtz and the 2023 1st or L. Hughes and the 2023 1st for Gibson, thats absurd.

Idk if there's a fit....not giving up let's say a top 2022 1-5 lottery pick for him either.

You are right . We are desperate for a goalie but not that desperate lol.
I could see us make a very aggressive offer if by some miracle Hellebuyck would be available (very very very unlikely ) but that’s the type of goalie you consider overpaying for . Not one that has regressed the last 2/3 years and Stolarz has put up better numbers on the same team.
Of course I’d love to have Gibson but not at a ridiculous cost and the length of the contract plus his recent play is very worrisome.
