McKenzie: Blackhawks had/have interest in Yakupov

Well this is basically Yakupov at a cross roads in his career. He's either going to be an NHLer or he's heading back to the KHL.

1 year left on his deal. He either buys in like Panarin etc and does what is asked of him or he's out.

It's for 1 year, the problem is...Kruger is too useful for the Hawks and anything else just hard to fit in...McNeil won't make the salaries balance out.

Hawks could include a pick with McNeil and the Oilers could retain, but don't see Oilers retaining...

Why not? We don't need the cap space this season.

Sounds like Yak has played his last game as an Oiler if Chia gets his way.

Mark McNeill(+3rd) for Nail Yakupov(50% retained)

Yak has his issues but McNeill doesnt have any NHL talent at all(2nd line AHL player)
Most Oiler fans just want to see Yakupov get a fresh start because he works hard and has a great attitude

I've been all for Yakupov for a while...

He might fizz out.. but Chicago needs talent to play in a top 9 role and he'd provide that.

Panarin - Toews - Yakupov would look nice

Just don't see it, gut feel/opinion, absolutely prepared to be wrong on that.

I mean on the counter point maybe the Oilers want to be rid of Yakupov so badly and change the culture so badly they'd rather retain to lose him.

I think they are pretty prepared to move on from him, and they were willing to retain 50% on Schultz when they were at the same point with him. Katz has money to burn, and he's given new management free rein to build the team around McDavid whatever it takes.

Chiarelli about to trade another top 2 pick. His favorite past time. That said, can't blame him on this one!

Doubt it, good young d at a small cap hit is untouchable for a cap tight team like chi. Well not untouchable but very unlikely hea moved

Hawks have a bunch of those one needs to go anyways since they'll be gone after the expansion draft

The difference would be 50% on Schultz at the TDL isn't the same as the start of the season, granted he's loaded but Katz has kind of struck me as cheap...maybe it was the whole arena debacle with him trying to defer as much of the cost onto the public as possible or threatening to move the team.

I think it's probably in everyone's best interest that Edmonton and Yakupov depart. Yakupov gets another kick at an NHL career and the Oilers can continue changing their identity.

Wish you all the best Yak. Good kid, purely a hockey move. Hopefully we find out details soon here.

The Oilers are still pretty weak on RW though
Eberle is a lock.
Puljujarvi hasn't been that impressive and most Oiler fans want to see him start in the AHL
Versteeg is hurt and I havent been that impressed.
Kassian is a 4th liner
Draisaitl experiment?
