Great game! We have improved our depth so much, props to Drury, that we can be very patient with deciding when to work Kakko back into the line-up, wrist injuries are notoriously tricky to come back from.

McKegg and Gauthier should be in Hartford soon (at least when Kaako and Rooney return). That 4th line was awesome, haven't felt so good about a 4th line in such a long time. These 3 make it very evident just how much Reaves skates in mud and McKegg and Gauthier really can get upgraded.

Even going back to our recent glory days of going deep in playoffs within the last decade where we had some good hustle on our 4th line - I LOVED that 4th line tonight.

A whole lot to feel good about. Don't care they're at 3 games in 4 days. The other two games were Buffalo and Columbus.

Jumped them early. Legs weren't gassed yet.

Carolina is having scoring issues. Pens have the 2nd toughest schedule left. Rangers is 23rd. I am not holding out hope it'll happen, but they're back in for 1st.

I voted for Kreider, Zib and Trouba. Thought Trouba was really strong early in the game and led the team by example.

Igor's save on the breakaway by Carter when the rangers were up 4-1 was his most important save of the night.

Loved that 3rd line tonight.

4th line was good too, but that Johnny the body backhand pass into the middle of the ice in his own zone was no bueno.

23rd taking into account that most are at home? Because if not consider that most are at home and they can go on a run. Then again our last three wins were Tampa, Carolina, Pittsburgh, the last two losses NYI and NJD. Go figure.

They do this occasionally.

Why it isn’t there more regularly is anyone’s guess. I can’t figure it out for the life of me.

The team just doesn't go prolonged stretches of bad play it seems. Whenever they have a bad loss or lose two in a row they come back with an impressive effort. The team has had two bad stretches all year, the three game losing streak that included two OT losses (only three game losing streak of the season) and a stretch when Shesterkin was injured and they played Colorado where when they lost like 4 of 6. They find ways to come back from bad games. I think they might have one win streak of 4 games MAYBE all season, outside of the 7 game winning streak. They just find reserves when they lose to come back and win. They got embarrassed last game and got home and were rested in an important game and just turned it on. They honestly turned it on early against the Devils but took them lightly and were tired. I have a feeling it's going to be a fun last 17 games.

IMO Laff is showing that no matter where in the lineup he plays he makes everyone around him better. That is an indispensable skill.
If tonight is any indication of how good this team could be, Kakko could be the odd man out.

That in itself, is incredible lineup competition. To think how much I loved what Sammy brought to this team way back in what seems like a lifetime ago...I still miss him too.

BTW, this is why you need to take advanced stats with a grain of salt.

Expected goals were 2.45-2.22. Give me a f***ing break. If this doesn't make you question expected goals nothing will.

Based on points percentage. Pens have not played Colorado at all. No real weak games. They win on Tuesday, I expect home ice in round 1.

I posted this in the Laffy thread before the game....

Did I call it, or did I call it? Told ya Gallant wanted to see where the new guys fit. And so what happens, all 3 that he moved around,... scored.

Gallant has to get the Jack Adams. Every move he makes is gold. Talk about the Midas touch.
I was already aware that Gallant is a very good coach, and have been aware of that fact for a long time. I don't freak out with every thing done, as some did with what they perceived as an unforgivable mishandling of Alexis LaFreniere in one game, as if they know better. It is simply crazy how bent out of shape some posters here get. They are not on the bench, they are not part of that special coach to player relationship that exists.
And, they aren't nearly as smart as Gallant.
