Nick Backstrom if he'd shoot more.
I love Backstrom as a player, but cmon, he only has two 20 goal seasons.

Well, to me a sniper who doesn't score a lot isn't sniper. No matter how good his shot is.
I don't think Getzlaf shoots enough to be in this discussion. And he's only hit 30 goals once in his career.
Kessel is up there. His issues are away from his playmaking and goal scoring.
Crosby. In spite if his recent goal-scoring slump.
How is Giroux in this discussion? He has 0 30 goals seasons.
Anyway, my choices here are Malkin (average of 38 goals and 62 assists), Crosby (average of 40 goals and 74 assists), Seguin (average of 36 goals and 40 assists in a season not including his rookie season), Kessel (average of 36 goals and 39 assists not including his first 2 seasons) or Ovechkin (average of 51 goals and 46 assists) purely looking at stats. When watching them play, I'd go with Malkin.

Kessel is definitely up there, especially if we're talking actually being a sniper vs simply pucks in the net. Sidney Crosby for example is a great shooter but I don't see him as a sniper in terms of goal scoring, his hands and athleticism lead to a lot of his goals. Don't get me wrong though, Sid is still one of the best examples for this thread, I'm just noting the difference in how a lot of their goals are scored.Kessel is up there. How is not every single person saying crosby?
Simply because it's not true. Is he as one-dimensionally inclined to be a playmaker such as Forsberg, Thorton and Sedin were/ are? Of course not but he's also never been the best in the game at both at the same time at any time in his career. I think his lone Rocket Richard win ( a fluke I might add considering Ovechkin missed 9 more games but had one less goal) and the fact that when players are still capable of putting up 40+ goals, Crosby has only eclipsed that mark once in his career.
BTW the season he won the Richard, he wasn't even top 5 in assists.
Malkin was 2nd and 3rd respectively the season he won the Hart and Art Ross.
