Filip Forsberg is the best combination of sniper and playmaker in the NHL? And for sure? The things I read on this forum...

Crazy isnt it? Half a season in the league and Forsberg is already the finished product who has the best offensive package in the league... :shakehead

Anyway William Nylander is probably one who should be top 5 at least.

Tavares is up there if balance is important, it's hard to say what he's better at.

 As a Caps fan, I'm all for pimping his passing and defensive backchecking,... but a skill as SNIPER he's never shown. :shakehead

Backstrom has shown great skill as a sniper. He just doesn't shoot as much as he probably should. Many experts will agree with me. Several of his draft scouting reports have been something along the lines of he's an elite playmaker with an amazing shot, which he doesn't use nearly as much as he could or should.

As for the question I'm going to have go with Malkin.

Ovechkin is up there, though he loves to shoot. Stamkos, Giroux, Crosby, and yes Backstrom are up there. Daniel Sedin used to be amazing, and might still be.

Getzlaf could probably score between 40 and 50 goals if he shot once in awhile. Just about every year he takes under 200 shots, and still paces for 25 goals every year with a very high shooting %. Compare that to Perry or Stamkos who consistently shoot 270+ times.

Health would go a long way for him as well.

If we call Crosby's Rocket trophy a fluke then we get to call MSL and Ovechkins Hart winning seasons a fluke too, right? Seeing as Sid was in line to smoke everyone.

Crosby has 1 Rocket Richard and never scored more than 40 again. That's like saying Cheechoo was the greatest goalscorer because he scored 56 goals once and won the Richard.

BTW, St.Louis won 2 Art Ross trophies, no 1t so doing it more than once doesn't constitute a fluke especially when he's been top 5 a few times as well. Ovechkin with his 2 other Hart trophies also screams fluke right?:sarcasm:

If Crosby had been a perennial 40 + goals scorer then I wouldn't call it a fluke but it sure was a fluke as his second best season is 39 goals.

Crosby leading the league in assists isn't a fluke because we all know he's a great playmaker. Crosby is a very good goalscorer but he's not a sniper, snipers are players that can score goals at will, that's not Crosby.

Snipers are players like Bossy, both Hulls, Lemieux, Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, Bure, Selanne, Lafleur.

Esposito although a great goalscorer in his career, he wasn't a sniper.

That's what I thought. Having 30 goals doesn't make you a sniper. It could but it doesn't have to.

Markus Naslund was the first name that came to mind for me.

Malkin is the perfect blend of goal scoring and playmaking. He's a cerebral player first and foremost, but has top notch sniping skills.

Tarasenko deserves more mention. The only guy on the team with equal vision/play-making skills is Jaden Schwartz...but Tarasenko is a better finisher/sniper. Kid makes crazy plays passing the puck and seeing things other guys just can't. I imagine once he puts up a couple of 80-90 point seasons, people will start giving him credit for being much more than a sniper.
